Results of the East Cork Cross Country Championships...Sun 17th Sept 2017

IMOLILLY OIL/EAST CORK DIVISION CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS, BALLYNOE
 
On a beautiful dry September morning the Cross Country season started again! Conditions were ideal for Cross Country.
 
Youghal AC had a huge turnout on the day with both Men’s and Ladies teams competing.

  

Our Senior Ladies did us proud taking top honours on the Day.
 
The Senior team consisted of Ruth Mellerick (2nd overall) Ann Marie Holland (3rd overall) Evelyn Cashman (4th overall) Niamh O Regan and Martina Landers
 
We also had Ruth taking gold  and Ann Marie silver in O35 Category, Evelyn took Gold in o45 category.
 
The girls also got the 035 Team prize!


In a very competitive men’s race -
 
Our Senior Men’s team got silver – Nigel Sheehan, Noel Curtin, Tom Barry and Aran Kenny.
Our Male O35 Team got 3rd Place – Ed Nicolson, Tom Barry, Ian Murphy and Brian Landers
And Our Male 45 got 2nd place. – Noel Curtin, Steven Devereaux, Ed O Regan and David Kilgannon
 
 
Special mention must got to Tom Barry, Aran Kenny and Ian Murphy as this was their first taste of Cross Country, great to have ye on the team!
 
 
GLEN OF AHERLOW MARATHON SATURDAY 16 SEPTEMBER
 
 
Well done to Ricky on her podium finish in the Glen of Aherlow Marathon – Ricky came home in 2nd place on what can only be described as a very tough Course!
 

CHARLEVILLE HALF MARATHON

A record 1133 runners turned out for this years Charleville Half-Marathon on what were ideal running conditions. After an early morning fog, the sun eventually made an appearance but it was near the end of the race.

     

Aoife Cooke 2nd Lady home in an impressive time of 79.18
 
Deirdre Ansbro had a PB of nearly 3 mins to finish in 1.30.56
 
Other Youghal athletes who competed today were Brendan Coleman 1.21-24, David Barry 1.25.46, Declan Barron 1.31.26.
 
Well done to all Youghal Athletes who competed over the weekend.

East Cork XC Even Age 17-Sep-2017

The spikes were found , the winter woolies take out (and then discarded) and the sat nav set to find a field in Ballynoe- yes , cross country season has begun.

        

The sun was shining when our U10 girls started proceedings for the East cork XC championship in Ballynoe. Vivien Millerick led the team with an outstanding run to finish 2nd overall . Taylor Aherne battled hard all the way to the line to finish joint 3rd. She was closely followed by Autumn Devereaux 5th and Niamh Murray 18th . Aine Collins 21st and Lauren O Brien 24th completed the team that won silver.

A great team of 14 lined up for the U10 boys 1000m . Jimmy Nicholson led the team home to finish a fantastic 4th . He was closely followed by Darragh Murray 5th , Mathew Murrray 8th and Keelan Ansbro 9th. Cian Hogan 18th was next home , closely followed by Cathal Brennan 19th and Jack O Neill 22nd. Leo Nicholson, Conor O Sullivan ,David O Connor , Enda Terry , Fiona Breathnach, Donnacha Coleman and Quin Buckley completed this strong team which took gold.

Sorcha Kilgannon had a super run in the U12 girls 1500m to take individual silver . She was closely followed by Eireann Barrett 8th , Poppi Devereaux 9th and Isabella Chidlow 10th. Ruby Kennedy finished 14th , with Katie Ansbro sprinting to take 18th place. Nadia O Shea , Eva Curran , Clodagh Fitzgerald and Aoibhinn O Brien completed the team.

Jude Buckley had a great run in the U12 boys race to finish a fantastic 8th overall.  He was followed by Paddy Nicholson 15th and Drew Kenny 16th. Ronin Joyce and Fionn Brennan completed the team.

Emma Landers had an outstanding run to win the east cork U14 title . She was closely followed by Avril Cashman who took individual bronze. Erin Joyce finished a super 5th , with Avril Millerick 6th and Alex Cashman 7th. Eva Murphy followed in 9th , with Robyn Buckley 11th , Rion Walsh 14th and Natasha Kilgannon completing this super team which took gold.

Charlie O Neill and Ross Williams performed well in the U14boys race but were unfortunate not to have a team on the day.

Lesley Cashman had a super run to win the U16 girls 3000m and take  the east Cork title. 

Ciaran McNamee had a great run to win  the U16 boys race and take the east cork  title too. Ben Terry also put in a strong  performance in this race .

Aine O Regan finished strong  in the U18 girls race to complete our juvenile races on a very successful day. More photos available at www.youghalac.com/photos

West Waterford Greenway Half Marathon

The inaugural West Waterford AC Greenway Half-Marathon was held on Saturday the 2nd of Sept 2017 with 406 runners taking part. Alan O'Shea of Bantry AC was the first man home

Our ladies had a great day with Deirdre taking 5th place, Louise 7th and Margaret 9th.

NOTICE BRITISH AND IRISH MASTER CROSS COUNTRY

The British & Irish Masters XC Championships will be hosted by Northern Ireland Masters on Saturday 18th  Nov. in Derry. Trial race will take place in conjunction with the AAI Autumn CC in Abbottstown on Sunday 22nd Oct
 
This is open to all master athletes. 
 
Selection policy remains the same as previous years, where Teams comprise of 4 Athletes, i.e. F35 through to F70 plus M55 through to M75, first 3 Athletes across the line, will be selected. Teams of 6, i.e. M35 through to M50, then the first 4 Athletes will be selected, from trial race.
 
All Athletes seeking selection must be registered Members of the IMAA, I will have the forms at Tuesdays training sessions if anybody is interested.  The charge is €15.
