Munster Unevenage XC 12-Nov-2017

The Munster unevenage XC was held on Sunday 12th November in Galbally , Co. Tipperary. The overnight rain had left the ground fairly wet and mucky but the tough conditions didn’t hinder the performances of the YOUGHAL AC athletes.


Our U9 girls started the days races with super performances by Niamh Murray and Aine Collins who finished 46th and 75th respectively.

Donnacha Coleman led the U9boys team home  with a great run to finish 26th overall. Mathew Murray was next in 29th position , closely followed by Darragh Murray 39th . Conor O Sullivan completed the team.

Vivien Millerick had a super run in the U11 girls race to finish 39th overall. Taylor Aherne was next home in 47th position followed by Autumn Devereaux 82nd . Clodagh Fitzgerald completed the team.  Drew Kenny was the only Youghal  athlete to compete in the U11 boys race and finished well in 71st position.

Alex Cashman had a fantastic run in the U13 girls 2500m race. She finished 9th overall , winning an individual Munster medal and was the 4th scorer on the winning Cork team. Sorcha Kilgannon was next home in 34th position , with Eireann Barrett 58th and Grace Rooney 81st. Poppi Devereaux and Ciara Wood completed the team.

Charlie O Neill was the only Youghal competitor in the U 13 boys race and finished well in 49th position.

Emma Landers had a super performance in the U15 girls 3500m race to finish 4th overall. She was followed closely by Avril Cashman 10th and Erin Joyce 12th. These three won individual Munster medals and were all scorers on the winning Cork team. Eva Murphy had a great run to finish 24th , with a Robyn Buckley 34th. Natasha Kilgannon completed this super team that won club team gold.

Ciaran McNamee competed in the U15 boys race and finished 16th overall. He was the 1st scorer for the  Cork team which took bronze.

Lucy O Keeffe had an outstanding run in the U17 girls 4000m race to lead the field from the 2000m mark and take the Munster title. She was the 1st scorer for the winning Cork team. Lesley Cashman also ran well to finish 22nd overall and  qualified for the National XC by finishing 7th on the Cork team. Kerry Barrett had a great run to finish 44th overall.

Jake McCarthy had a fantastic run in the U17 boys race to finish 3th overall and was the 2nd scorer on the winning Cork team.

Aine O Regan had a great run in the U19 girls race.

Simon Upton had a super run in the U19 boys race to finish 11th overall. Killian Nolan followed in 14th position . Both scoring for the winning Cork team.

County XC Relays 05-Nov-2017

The County XC relays were held in Riverstick on Sunday 5th November in relatively good conditions. 


The U10 girls were up first with Carolina taking  the first 250m leg and getting the Youghal girls off to a great start. Autumn was next and had a great run to pass the baton on to Niamh who had a superb run . Taylor took the last , tough ,uphill leg and brought the team home in 4th position.


The U10 boys were next and Matthew got the boys off to a great start. Jimmy was next and passed  the baton to Donnacha . Finn had a great finish to bring the team home in 5th position. Conor completed the team.


Izabella got the U12 girls off to a great start , with Eireann taking the second 500m leg. Ruby had a superb 3rd leg to pass the baton to Poppi in 3rd position. Poppi had a tough 500m but dug deep to hold her position and bring the girls home in bronze medal position. Ciara completed the team .

National Schools Combined Events 28-Oct-2017

Kerry Barrett representing Pobal Scoil an Trionoide was the only YOUGHAL athlete to compete at the National schools combined events on 28th October in Athlone. Well done to Kerry who came 8th in the Intermediate girls competition.

Cork Master Cross Country Riverstick 05-Nov-2017

Cork Master Cross Country Riverstick 5  November 2017
 
On a glorious Autumn day we had a large Youghal crew turn out for the Cork Masters Cross Country race.
 
First up were the ladies Celia O Regan, Ricky Devereaux, Niamh O Regan, Ann Marie Holland, Ruth Mellerick, Evelyn Cashman and Michelle Nolan.  Conditions under foot were okay with only a few soft patches.
Ann Marie, Ruth, Michelle and Evelyn ran together during the race followed by Niamh, Celia and Ricky to take top honours in the Team prize, plus there were several individual medals.  Special mention to Celia who took silver in the over 50 category.
 
The Youghal Men turned up in huge numbers again with Steve Devereaux, Ed O Regan, Ian Murphy, Denis O Sullivan, Ed Nicholson, Warren Terry, Tom Barry, Sean Aherne, David Kilgannon and Paul Curley taking to the field.
 
Well done to Steve who was 3rd in the M50 category and Paul who was 4th.
Ed Nicholson was 4th in a very competitive M45 Category
Ed O Regan 2nd in O55 Category followed by Denis O Sullivan in 3rd

AUTUMN CROSS COUNTRY - NATIONAL SPORTS COMPLEX

On a beautiful sunny day in Dublin we had 3 Youghal Athletes competing in
this Cross County race which also doubled up for entry into the Irish
Masters Championships in Derry in November.


First 5 per age category go through to represent Ireland. First 3 are
definite and last 2 are reserves.

First up was the Ladies race 6000m -  4 laps on a near perfect course, with
only  3 pulls.

Ann Marie Holland was first home in a time of 24.26 (10th Over 40)
Michelle Nolan 24.49 (6th over45)

Next was the mens race - 7500m

Our only male athlete was Steven Devereaux, Steven completed the course in
30.40 12th in the O50 Category.

Munster evenage XC 22-Oct-2017

The MUNSTER EVENAGE XC championship was held in Clarecastle on Sunday 22nd October . Following a week of horrendous weather it was no surprise that the course was extremely wet and mucky . Youghal AC had 26 athletes competing on the day and they all put in super performances despite the tough conditions.


The U10 girls opened the days event with a 1000m run. Vivien Millerick led the Youghal girls home with a super run to finish 20th overall. She was followed closely by Autumn Devereaux 25th and Taylor Aherne 30th. Carolina Kaakikova , running her first XC race ,completed the team.

Sorcha Kilgannon had a fantastic run in the U12 girls race to finish 9th overall , winning an individual Munster medal and a gold county team medal . Eireann Barrett 52nd was next , closely followed by Poppi Devereaux 55th and Izabella Chidlow 57th. Katie Ansbro , Ruby Kennedy and Clodagh Fitzgerald completed the team.

The U14 girls held their winning steak taking club team gold. Emma Landers had an outstanding run to finish 2nd overall . Avril Cashman was next in 9th position , followed by Erin Joyce 12th. These 3 girls winning individual Munster medals and all scored on the Cork team to take gold county  team medals. Eva Murphy was next in 16th position , followed by Avril Millerick 20th and Alex Cashman 23rd. Robyn Buckley , Grace Rooney  and Natasha Kilgannon completed the team.

Lucy O Keeffe had a super run in the U16 girls 4000m race to finish comfortably in 3rd position , winning an individual medal and leading Cork to victory in the county team competition. Lesley Cashman finished in 26th and qualified on the Cork team for the National XC competition. 

Ciaran McNamee finished 19th in the U16 boys race and also qualified on the Cork team for the Nationals.

Anne o Regan had a great run in the U18 girls race.  

Jake McCarthy finished a super 4th in the U18boys race , winning an individual medal and a silver county team medal . Killian Nolan finished well in 14th position and also took a silver Cork team medal.

With 19 medals and 12 athletes qualifying for the National XC , we will have to keep up the training and prepare for the next competition. Well done to all who competed on such a testing course.

INTERMEDIATE CROSS COUNTRY 15-Oct-2017

On a very wet and mucky course our Youghal athletes took to the start line.
 
First up were the ladies, Deirdre Ansbro, Niamh O Regan and Ricky Devereaux.
 
It was a very competitive race but our ladies all put in great performance.
 
The men’s team were Nigel Sheehan, Warren Terry, Ed Nicholson, Steve Devereaux, Paul Curley, Mossy Cahill, Ed O Regan and David Kilgannon
 
It’s great to see such a large turnout for the men’s  team.
 
Well done to everyone who competed today even if the weather was shocking!

Munster School combined events 11-Oct-2017

The Munster schools indoor combined events was held in Nenagh on Wednesday 11th October. Kerry Barrett was the only Youghal athlete to compete and represented Pobal Scoil na Trionoide . She had a fantastic competition to win bronze and qualify for the National competition to be held later this month

County B XC Championship 15-Oct-2017

The County B XC championship was held on Sunday 15th October , on a wet , muddy course in Carrignavar . The tough conditions however didn't dampen the spirits of the Youghal athletes who performed well on the day.


Our U9 girls got things off to a great start with Aine Collins leading the Youghal girl home with a super run to finish 6th and win an individual medal. Kate Rose Finn followed closely in 8th position , with Niamh Murray 13th , Rosie O Donovan 28th and Lauren Keating 29th. With such brilliant performances, the girls won silver team medals.

Donnacha Coleman had a great run in the U9 boys race to finish 5th and win an individual medal. Darragh Murray was next in 16th position, followed by Leo Nicholson 18th and Conor O Sullivan 19th. Quin Buckley, Enda Terry and James Chidlow completed the team which took club bronze medals.

In the U11 girls race Taylor Aherne led the Youghal girls with a super run to finish 3rd and win an individual medal. Autumn Devereaux finished in 14th position followed by Ella Marie Finn 26th and Aoibhinn O Brien 47th. The girls were unlucky to loose out on bronze team medals .

The U11 boys took team silver medals with great performances by all the Youghal boys. Drew Kenny finished 8th , followed by Finn Coleman 10th , Paddy Nicholson 11th and Jimmy Nicholson 28th. Jack O Neill and Keelan Ansbro completed the team.

Grace Rooney led the U13girls home with a great run to finish 10th overall. Poppi Devereaux was next in 15th position , with Izabella Chidlow 16th and Ruby Kennedy 22nd. Katie Ansbro, Ciara Wood and Eimear Flanagan completed the team that won team bronze medals.

Charlie O Neill had a great run in the U13 boys race to finish 7th overall. 

Ross Williams also performed well in the U15 boys race to finish  in 12th position. 

Cian Nicholson and Ben Terry had super runs in the U17boys race to finish 4th and 5th respectively , both winning individual medals.

Cork Athletics Senior Cross Country 08-Oct-2017

Numbers were down for the ladies Senior race with only 13 competing.  Ruth Mellerick was our only lady competing today and put in a great performance to finish in a time of 25.47 for 6km.

Our men’s team are running very strong all season, well done to Tom Barry first Youghal man home followed by Ed Nicholson,  Ed O Regan, Brian Landers and Ian Murphy.
