Munster Schools XC 13-Feb-2020

The Munster Schools XC was held on Thur 13th Feb in Clarecastle. YOUGHAL AC had a number of athletes competing representing their  schools. Ground condition were horrendous on the day but this didn’t deter our athletes.


Emily Brenner had a super run in the Minor girls race to take silver . She was followed by her St Mary’s team mate Ailise Barry who finished 33rd. Both girls winning team gold for their school.

Dylan Cairns had a great run in the Minor boys race to finish 13th overall , thus qualifying individually for the National Schools XC. Jude Buckley also had a good run to finish 21st.

Izabella Chidlow led the Pobal Scoil team in the junior girls race. She was followed closely by Sorcha Kilgannon, Ruby Kennedy and Poppi Devereaux. Liam O Connor had a great run in the junior boys race to finish 11th overall. He also helped his Midleton CBS team to team bronze.

Avril Millerick put in a fantastic performance in the Intermediate girls race to take the Munster title. She was followed closely by Emma Landers 2nd , Avril Cashman 7th and Alex  Cashman  13th. Robyn Buckley 22nd, Erin Joyce 33rd and Rion Walsh 37th completed this super Pobal Scoil team which took team gold.

Lucy O Keeffe had a super run in the senior girls race to take bronze.

Well done to all who competed and best wishes to the 12 who qualified for the National Schools XC which will be held in Santry in March.

WINTER LEAGUE - Week 1

Despite the cold wet weather it was great to see such a great turn out for the first night of the winter league. Well done to all who participated. The following are the groups for next weeks league. Anyone who missed tonight is welcome to join in next week;


National B XC 08-Feb-2020

The National B XC was held in Rathdrum , Co. Wicklow on Sat 8th February. YOUGHAL AC had a number of  athletes competing  on the day with some great performances. Underfoot conditions were good despite the forcast but the odd hail storm and strong winds added to the difficulty.


Clodagh Walsh led the YOUGHAL girls home in the U11 girls race to finish 24th overall . She was followed by Aine Collins , Orla Motherway , Molly O Brien and Caoimhe Brennan. Ruby Devereaux led the U11 boys team home . He was followed by Donnacha Coleman, Conor O Sullivan, Quin Buckley and Carthach O Laoire.

In the U13 girls event the YOUGHAL Girls put in super performances . Led by Katie O Neill 17th, Autumn Devereaux 18th and Vivien Millerick 19th, all 3scored on the Winning Cork team. Saorla Ni Laoire completed this fantastic team which took club team silver.

Dylan Cairns had an outstanding run in the U13 boys race to take individual silver . He was also the 1st scorer on the winning Cork team. Rion O Laoire also had a great run.

In the U15 boys race Liam O Connor had a great run to finish 14th overall winning a cork team gold medal. He was followed home by Ben Walsh 32nd, Jude Buckley 35th and James O Neill 38th.

East Munster Schools XC 31-Jan-2020

The east Munster schools XC was held in Carrignore , Waterford on Friday 31st January. Youghal AC had a number of athletes competing for Pobal Scoil na Tríonóide.


Katie Ansbro competed in the Minor girls 1500m while Dylan Cairns competed in the Minor boys 2000m and had a great run to qualify individually for the Munster XC.

In the junior girls race Sorcha Kilgannon, Izabella Chidlow, Poppi Devereaux and Ruby Kennedy put in great performances to finish as 4th team , thus qualifying for the Munsters. Ronin Joyce competed well in the junior boys race.

In the Intermediate girls 3000m Avril Cashman led the Pobal scoil girls to finish 3rd overall. She was followed by Alex Cashman 5th and Emma Landers 6th. Robyn Buckley followed closely in 11th position , with Erin Joyce 14th . Natasha Kilgannon and Rion Walsh completed this super team which took gold for their school team.

South Munster Schools XC 30-Jan-2020

The south Munster schools XC was held in Tramore valley park on Thursday 30th January. Youghal AC had a number of athletes competing for their individual schools.

Emily Brenner had a super run in the Minor girls 1500m race to take gold , she was followed by Ailise Barry 18th. Both girls scored for their St. Mary’s Midleton school team which also won. Jude Buckley finished a fantastic 7th in the Minor boys 2000m race. Liam O connor had a great run to finish 9th in the junior boys 3000m race. Both Jude and Liam qualified individually for the Munster XC.

In the Intermediate girls 3000m race Avril Millerick led from the start to win comfortably. She also led her St Mary’s team to team bronze. Lucy O Keeffe also put in an impressive performance in the senior girls 2500m to also win and lead her St Mary’s team to team bronze.

Munster Indoors 19-Jan-2020

The Munster indoors was held in Nenagh on Sun19th Jan. YOUGHAL AC had 3athletes competing in the pole vault competition. 


Autumn Devereaux competed in the U13 girls event and had a fantastic 1.8m jump to take the Munster title. She also smashed the previous record by 40cm.

In the U15 girls event Sorcha Kilgannon also took the Munster title with a superb 2.2m jump. Poppi Devereaux also jump 2.2m in the same event to finish 3rd overall on countbacks.

Well done to all who competed and congrats on such brilliant results

Youghal girls lead Irish team at Celtic International 12-Jan-2020

The Celtic International XC was held in Stirling, Scotland on Sat 12th Jan. Youghal AC had 2 athletes competing on the Irish team, Emma Landers and Avril Millerick. These girls were selected following very successful performances by both, throughout the XC season.

Conditions were challenging in Scotland but this rain and tough underfoot conditions did not deter our athletes . 

Emma put in an outstanding performance in the U17 girls 6k competition to finish 2nd overall winning an individual international silver medal. She also led her Irish team to team silver. 

Avril Millerick also had a superb run to finish 5th overall and was the 2nd scorer on the Irish team, also winning a silver international team medal.

Well done to both girls on a fantastic performance.
