National Uneven Age XC Championship 17-Dec-2017

The National uneven age XC championship was held in WIT on Sunday 17th December. YOUGHAL  AC had 11 athletes competing on the day. It was the fine, unseasonally warm weather combined with fairly sticky underfoot conditions  that made this tough undulating course more difficult.


Alex Cashman was our first athlete to compete in the U13 Girls 2500m race. She had a fantastic run to finish 31st overall and win a silver Cork medal.

Our U15 Girls were up next and Emma Landers had a super run to finish 3rd overall winning an individual bronze national medal . Erin Joyce had a fantastic run to finish 16 th and win a Gold Regional medal with Emma on the Munster team. Avril Cashman  29 th was next home and won a silver county medal with Emma and Erin. Eva Murphy , Robyn Buckley and Natasha Kilgannon completed this super team which won Club team silver .

Lucy O Keeffe was outstanding in the U17 Girls race and finished 3th overall winning individual Bronze , gold Regional and bronze  county medals . Lesley Cashman also had a great run and won a bronze country medal .

Jake McCarthy had a great run in the U17 boys race and finished 15 th overall winning a bronze county team medal.

Killian Nolan competed in the U19 boys race and  unfortunately had to retire due to injury.

East Cork XC 10-Dec-2017

The East Cork Xc was held  on Sunday 10th December in Watergrasshill on a wet wintery morning. Despite the rain and cold Youghal Ac had a number of athletes competing.


Aine Collins had a great run in the U9 girls 750m course to take bronze . Niamh Murray was next home closely followed by Kate Finn and Lauren Keating. These girls put in super performances to take team gold.

The U9boys took team bronze. They were led home by Donnacha Coleman 4th. Followed by Leo Nicholson , Enda Terry and Eoin Gleeson. Conor O Sullivan and James Chidlow completed the team.

Vivien Millerick led the U11 girls team home and finished 4th overall closely followed by Taylor Aherne 6th . Autumn Devereaux , Clodagh Fitzgerald and Ella Finn completed this great team that won silver.

Paddy Nicholson took bronze in the U11 boys race. He was followed by Jimmy Nicholson 8th and Jack O Neill 10th . These boys took bronze team medals.

Alex Cashman  took bronze in the U13 girls race with Grace Rooney 8th. Roisin Reilly , Katie Ansbro, Izabella Chidlow and Ciara Wood completed this team which took silver.

Charlie O Neill had a super run in the U13 boys race to finish 4th overall.

The U15 girls were worthy gold medal winner on the day as they ran together as a team throughout the race until they completed the obstacle on the last lap.  Once  the jump was cleared safely they sprinted the last 200m with Emma Landers finishing 2nd , Erin Joyce 3rd, Eva Murphy 4th and Avril Cashman 5th.

Ciaran McNamee took the East Cork U15 boys title and Lesley Cashman had a great win in the U17 girls race.

Munster B XC Championships 03-Dec-2017

The Munster B XC championship was held in Beaufort on Sunday 3rd December. The ground conditions were relatively good despite the  dull ,damp weather .Youghal AC had 14 athletes competing , with some fantastic performances on the day.

Aine Collins got the day off to a brilliant start in the U9 girls race finishing 10th overall to win an individual Munster B medal . She also scored for the winning Cork team. Niamh Murray had a super run too.

Donnacha Coleman took individual silver in the U 9 boys race and also won a gold Cork team medal. Conor O Sullivan also put in a super performance.

Vivien Millerick led the U11 Youghal girls and finished a fantastic 5th overall closely followed by Taylor Aherne 6th and Autumn Devereaux 12th. These girls all won individual Munster medals and gold cork team medals. Carolina Kadlikova completed this super team that took team gold .

Grace Rooney finished well in 19th position in the U13 girls race. She was followed by Poppi Devereaux , Ruby Kennedy and Katie Ansbro.

Charlie O Neill had a super run in the U13 boys race to finish 7th overall winning an individual medal and a gold Cork team medal.

Lesley Cashman had a super run in the U 17 girls race to finish 2nd overall a win an individual silver medal and a gold Cork team medal.

Waterford Half Marathon 02-Dec-2017

Youghal Ac had 39 athletes at the start line this morning for the Waterford AC Half Marathon, the conditions were perfect this year. We had 2individual category winners and also several PB's were achieved. The course is not the easiest with hills at mile 6 and 10  that will certainly test your training.  Well done to everyone who took part, all the Saturday morning runs paid off!

National Even Age Cross Country Championships 26-Nov-2017

The National EVENAGE XC championship was held in Abbotstown ,Dublin on Sunday 26th November. Despite the cold weather, underfoot conditions were relatively good with just a few muddy patches throughout the course. YOUGHAL AC  had 14 athletes competing on the day with all putting in super performances.

Sorcha Kilgannon was the first YOUGHAL athlete to set out on 2 laps of the 1k course in the U12 girls race. She had a fantastic run to finish 18th overall , winning a gold County team medal and a silver Munster team medal.

Our U 14 girls team were up next in the 3k race. Emma Landers led the team from the gun and had a super run to finish 5th overall winning an individual National medal. Avril Cashman was next home with a terrific run to finish 15th overall winning ,along with Emma , a MUNSTER silver team medal. Erin Joyce finished a fantastic 33rd , scoring along with Emma and Avril on the Cork team , which took silver. Eva Murphy and Alex Cashman battled all the way to the line to finish 42nd and 43rd respectively. Robyn Buckley completed this dream team that took club silver.

Lucy O Keeffe had a outstanding run in the U16 girls 4K race to finish 5th overall. In addition to winning an individual National medal, Lucy won silver Munster team and silver Cork team medals and secured a position on the Irish team in the Celtic international to be held later in the season. Lesley Cashman had a super race to finish 67th and won a silver Cork team medal.  Ciaran McNamee had a good run in the U16 boys race.

Killian Nolan had a super run in the U18 boys race and won a silver Cork team medal. Simon Upton also had a great run . Unfortunately Jake McCarthy had to retire due to injury during the race.

Fearghal Curtin had a fantastic run in the Junior boys race and was pipped at the post for 3rd position.

Well done to all who competed with such outstanding achievements. Keep up the good work - uneven age still to come.

Munster Masters Cross Country Championships 19-Nov-2017

Gold for Youghal ladies team in Munster Masters!

The conditions under foot were far from ideal, with the last few days rain
making the muck very sticky and deep under foot.


Michelle Nolan (5th) led the Youghal Ladies home to victory in a fantastic
performance followed by Ruth Mellerick (6th) Ann Marie Holland (7th) ,
Evelyn Cashman (11th)  and Celia O Regan.
Michelle has been having a great season and hopes to continue her excellent
performance in next month's Half Marathon in Waterford.

Michelle also won individual Gold in O45, Ruth silver in O35, Evelyn 3rd O45
Michelle, Ruth and Ann Marie were also on the winning Cork Team.

The men's race saw Warren Terry, Ed Nicholson, Tom Barry, Paul Curley,
Steven Devereaux, Ian Murphy and Ed O Regan take to the line.  The course
was well churned up after both the Relays and Ladies race making race
conditions very difficult, however all Youghal men put in great
performances.

Munster Unevenage XC 12-Nov-2017

The Munster unevenage XC was held on Sunday 12th November in Galbally , Co. Tipperary. The overnight rain had left the ground fairly wet and mucky but the tough conditions didn’t hinder the performances of the YOUGHAL AC athletes.


Our U9 girls started the days races with super performances by Niamh Murray and Aine Collins who finished 46th and 75th respectively.

Donnacha Coleman led the U9boys team home  with a great run to finish 26th overall. Mathew Murray was next in 29th position , closely followed by Darragh Murray 39th . Conor O Sullivan completed the team.

Vivien Millerick had a super run in the U11 girls race to finish 39th overall. Taylor Aherne was next home in 47th position followed by Autumn Devereaux 82nd . Clodagh Fitzgerald completed the team.  Drew Kenny was the only Youghal  athlete to compete in the U11 boys race and finished well in 71st position.

Alex Cashman had a fantastic run in the U13 girls 2500m race. She finished 9th overall , winning an individual Munster medal and was the 4th scorer on the winning Cork team. Sorcha Kilgannon was next home in 34th position , with Eireann Barrett 58th and Grace Rooney 81st. Poppi Devereaux and Ciara Wood completed the team.

Charlie O Neill was the only Youghal competitor in the U 13 boys race and finished well in 49th position.

Emma Landers had a super performance in the U15 girls 3500m race to finish 4th overall. She was followed closely by Avril Cashman 10th and Erin Joyce 12th. These three won individual Munster medals and were all scorers on the winning Cork team. Eva Murphy had a great run to finish 24th , with a Robyn Buckley 34th. Natasha Kilgannon completed this super team that won club team gold.

Ciaran McNamee competed in the U15 boys race and finished 16th overall. He was the 1st scorer for the  Cork team which took bronze.

Lucy O Keeffe had an outstanding run in the U17 girls 4000m race to lead the field from the 2000m mark and take the Munster title. She was the 1st scorer for the winning Cork team. Lesley Cashman also ran well to finish 22nd overall and  qualified for the National XC by finishing 7th on the Cork team. Kerry Barrett had a great run to finish 44th overall.

Jake McCarthy had a fantastic run in the U17 boys race to finish 3th overall and was the 2nd scorer on the winning Cork team.

Aine O Regan had a great run in the U19 girls race.

Simon Upton had a super run in the U19 boys race to finish 11th overall. Killian Nolan followed in 14th position . Both scoring for the winning Cork team.

County XC Relays 05-Nov-2017

The County XC relays were held in Riverstick on Sunday 5th November in relatively good conditions. 


The U10 girls were up first with Carolina taking  the first 250m leg and getting the Youghal girls off to a great start. Autumn was next and had a great run to pass the baton on to Niamh who had a superb run . Taylor took the last , tough ,uphill leg and brought the team home in 4th position.


The U10 boys were next and Matthew got the boys off to a great start. Jimmy was next and passed  the baton to Donnacha . Finn had a great finish to bring the team home in 5th position. Conor completed the team.


Izabella got the U12 girls off to a great start , with Eireann taking the second 500m leg. Ruby had a superb 3rd leg to pass the baton to Poppi in 3rd position. Poppi had a tough 500m but dug deep to hold her position and bring the girls home in bronze medal position. Ciara completed the team .

Kerry Barrett representing Pobal Scoil an Trionoide was the only YOUGHAL athlete to compete at the National schools combined events on 28th October in Athlone. Well done to Kerry who came 8th in the Intermediate girls competition.

Cork Master Cross Country Riverstick 05-Nov-2017

Cork Master Cross Country Riverstick 5  November 2017
 
On a glorious Autumn day we had a large Youghal crew turn out for the Cork Masters Cross Country race.
 
First up were the ladies Celia O Regan, Ricky Devereaux, Niamh O Regan, Ann Marie Holland, Ruth Mellerick, Evelyn Cashman and Michelle Nolan.  Conditions under foot were okay with only a few soft patches.
Ann Marie, Ruth, Michelle and Evelyn ran together during the race followed by Niamh, Celia and Ricky to take top honours in the Team prize, plus there were several individual medals.  Special mention to Celia who took silver in the over 50 category.
 
The Youghal Men turned up in huge numbers again with Steve Devereaux, Ed O Regan, Ian Murphy, Denis O Sullivan, Ed Nicholson, Warren Terry, Tom Barry, Sean Aherne, David Kilgannon and Paul Curley taking to the field.
 
Well done to Steve who was 3rd in the M50 category and Paul who was 4th.
Ed Nicholson was 4th in a very competitive M45 Category
Ed O Regan 2nd in O55 Category followed by Denis O Sullivan in 3rd
