The club won 11 medals at the Munster B Championships on Sunday 2nd December in Newmarket on Fergus, Co. Clare. Weather and ground conditions were very poor; the course was very mucky and it rained throughout the day.

Rion Walsh started the day running in the first race U/9; she got out in the lead and was overtaken after 300m; but she showed great determination and speed and closed in again on the two girls in front and beat them well to become the Munster B champion.  Rion also won a gold Cork team medal as well as her gold individual medal.  Rion’s sister Eabha ran in the G/11 race and finished in a vey good 8th position winning a bronze medal; she also won a gold Cork team medal being the 4th scorer.  Well done to the Walsh sisters!

Tom Wall led the boys U/11 team home when he finished in a super 9th place in one of the biggest fields of the day.  Tom won a bronze individual medal and he also won a bronze Cork team medal as he was the 3rd scorer.  Ciaran McNamee who was running up an age finished in a very good 20th and also won a Cork team medal; he was the 5th scorer.  Also on the team were Oisin Hill,  Enda Cronin, Adam O’ Brien and Oisin Cantwell who all put in good performances.  The team came 7th.

Faith McEvitt was unlucky to finish 13th in the G/13 race just outside the individual medals.  She was closely followed by Karynn Collins in 15th. Faith and Karynn both won gold Cork team medals; Faith was the 4th scorer and Karynn was the 5th scorer.  Next in was Aine O’ Regan, Orla Cowhig, Doireann Conway, Tirna Cahill and Molly O’ Neill all putting in solid performances in deteriorating ground conditions. Their team was 7th.

Eoin O’ Brien had a great run in the B/13 race getting out well in the leading group; Eoin and two other lads broke away from the second group and all three finished close together.  Eoin was 3rd and won a a bronze individual medal; he also won a bronze Cork team medal and was the first scorer. Newcomers Adrian Galvin, Dylan Lucey and Odhran Cantwell also ran well in this race and the team finished in 6th place.

Well done also to Tara Murphy who finished outside the Cork team medals in the G/15 race.  These were excellent results with 6 athletes getting their first Munster medals which is a great achievement and a great finish to the Cross Country season. There are also some significant improvements and lots of potential in the club!  Thanks to all who supported their teams at the Championships. Photos available at www.youghalac.com/photos
