WOODIES  DIY  NATIONAL  LEAGUE

Youghal AC entered two teams in the first division of the Woodies DIY National League on 10th June last.  This was a first time for the club as some of our athletes have guested for various clubs over the years.  A lot of work went into the preparation and the compilation of the panel but it was very worth while as a very enjoyable day of competition was had by all athletes at round one in Athlone.  Many thanks to our guests who put in superb performances and included Aideen Hallahan (Midleton AC), Aileen Hurley (Gr. Fermoy), Daniel Colbert (Midleton AC) and Diarmuid Hickey (Riverstick/Kinsale).

The ladies team included Richella Devereaux (Manager), 5th in 1500m, 6th in 800m, Laura Keane 6th in 3000m, Nikita Savage, 2nd in Pole Vault, 5th in 200m and 4th in 400m, Faye O' Brien 3rd in High Jump, 5th in Hammer, Patricia Curtin 1st in Javelin, 3rd inTriple Jump and 4th in 400m Hurdles, Aideen Hallahan (Guest) 1st in Shot, 3rd in Discus, Aileen Hurley (Guest) 2nd in 100m, 2nd in Long Jump and 3rd in 100m Hurdles.  The 4 x 100m relay team included Nikita, Patricia, Aideen and Aileen and all sprinted very well to finish in 3rd place.  The 4 x 400m relay team finished well in 4th and included Richella, Laura, Faye and Aileen.  The ladies team are in joint 5th place between the two sections Antrim and Athlone after round one.

There was also another lot of teams competing in Division one in Antrim on 10th June.  After combining results of both venues the ladies team is lying in joint 5th with 91 points which is an excellent result for the ladies.  The men's team in lying in 11th place but  there is very little in point difference between teams.  The second round is on 22nd July and there will be more on the men's panel as some of our athletes had exams to contend with in June.  The aim is to get into the top eight teams after two rounds as there is a final in August.  Best of luck to all athletes for the next day and of course to our juveniles who have their Munsters next weekend in Cork.
