Day 1 of the County Cross Country  took place in Carrignavar on Sunday 4th October. It was a lovely , fairly flat course with good underfoot conditions. the strong wind however was the biggest challenge of the day.

Our U 10 girls were up first and didn't disappoint . Emily Brennar led the team on the 1k route to come home 4th overall to get an individual county medal. Eireann Barrett was next in 9th position followed closely by Poppy Devereaux 12th and Sorcha Kilgallon 18th. Ruby Kennedy , Katie Ansbro and Clodagh Fitzgerald completed the team who got Bronze county team medals.

The U10 boys were short a few members on the day so couldn't field a team. Ronan O Brien , Fionn Brennan and Aidan McNamee were not phased by this and bravely line up to run the 1000m . Ronan finished strongly in 26th position , with Fionn 66th.

Ten girls from Youghal AC lined up for the U12 girls 2000m race. These girls had a super race and won gold team medals. Emma Landers finished in 3rd place overall to earn an individual medal. She was followed by Avril Cashman who finished 7th despite a fall in the first lap. Robyn Buckley was next in 9th position with Eva Murphy 10th , Erin Joyce 11th, Avril Millerick 12th and Alex Cashman 13th. Grace Rooney finished strongly in 34th position followed by Natasha Kilgallon and Saoirse O Connell.

The U12 boys team had a great run and were led home by Rory Motherway in 19th position. Ross Williams was next in 25th place followed by Nathan O Halloran 30th and Alex Kennedy 31st. The team finished 5th in a very competitive field.

The U14 girls were led home in the 3000m race by Lucy O Keeffe who ran a very steady race to finish 5th overall and obtain an individual medal. Lesley Cashman was next in 20th place followed by Kerry Barrett 26th. Johanne Ryan , running up an age in her first xc race completed the team which came an unlucky 4th .

Ciaran McNamee was first home in the U 14 boys race to finish 9th overall. Eoin Fitzgerald followed in 32nd place , with Cian Nicholson 33rd and Darragh Buckley 38th. Great team work , to finish 5th .

The U16 boys had a super race to secure team gold medals. Simon Upton was first home in 8th position followed closely by Killian Nolan 9th and Jake Mccarthy 10th. Dylan Lucey completed the winning team, finishing in 26th position.

Emily O Keeffe had a great race in the U18 girls race and completed the 4000m in 12th position.

Fearghal Curtin  led the field from the start and had an impressive win in the U18 boys. Calum Lynch finished in 13th position.

Overall a great day on a super course and thanks to the hosts Carrignavar AC for doing a splendid job.
