Sunday 18th September marked the start of the XC season with the East Cork XC championship being held near Ballynoe. The wet, rainy , all too familiar start to the XC day didn't dampen the spirits of our juvenile athletes who preformed superbly.

The U10 girls were up first in their 1000m race. Clodagh Fitzgerald led the Youghal girls home to finish an excellent 5th overall, closely followed by Autumn Devereaux 6th and Taylor Aherne 9th. Both Autumn and Taylor were running up an age in their first XC race. Unfortunately after such wonderful performances they were short one scorer for a team prize.

Paddy and Jimmy Nicholson had great runs in the U10 boys race to finish 9th and 12th respectively.

The U12 girls were led home by Sorcha Kilgannon who came 2nd overall. Avril Millerick and Alex Cashman took 3rd and 4th positions . Grace Rooney had a strong finish in 13th position to complete the scoring and secure the gold team medals. Poppi Devereaux, Rachel Murray , Tara Hickey and Ruby Kennedy completed this super team.

Ben Walsh had a super race in the U12 boys race to finish 3rd overall , closely followed by Charlie 0 Neill 5th and Jude Buckley 7th. Ronan Joyce had a great run to finish 19th and complete the scoring . The boys all won silver team medals.

The U14girls race was a pleasure to watch with top scoring by the Youghal girls. Emma Landers led the team home , finishing 2nd overall, followed by Erin Joyce 3rd , Eva Murphy 4th and Robyn Buckley 5th , securing gold team medals. Caoimhe McMahon 9th , Hannah Fitzgerald 10th and Natasha Kilgannon 13th completed the team.

Ciaran McNamee had an impressive win in the U14 boys race. Ross Williams also had a great run in this race.

Lucy O Keeffe won the U16 girls race , with a good performance also by Kerry Barrett.

Jake McCarthy won the U16 boys race with Dylan Lucey finishing 9th followed by Ben Terry and Cian Nicholson. Great scoring by the team to win silver medals.

Aine O Regan had a good run in the 3000m U18 girls race.

Killian Nolan won the U18 boys race closely followed by Simon Upton 3rd and Tiarna McCarthy 4th . Great running to obtain gold team medals.

Well done to all who competed. A great start to the XC season. More photos available at www.youghalac.com/photos
