National Juvenile Indoors 30/31-Mar-2019

The National juvenile indoors were held in Athlone on Sat 30th and Sunday 31st March. Youghal Ac had 5 athletes competing over the weekend.

Grace Rooney had and outstanding performance in the U15 girls 60m sprints to take the national title  with a PB of 7.84 seconds. She also took bronze in the 60m sprint hurdles. 

Dylan Cairns competed well in the U13 boys long jump .Natasha Kilgannon put in a great performance in the U16 girls 1500m walk. Liam o Leary competed well in the U18 boys high jump with a super 1.6m jump to finish 5th overall. 

Well done to all who competed.

Sat 23rd March was a great day for YOUGHAL AC , with 4 athletes from the club competing for Ireland at the schools international XC in Santry, Dublin. Lucy O'Keeffe and Avril Millerick from St. Mary’s Midleton and Alex Cashman and Emma Landers from Pobal Scoil , Youghal had qualified individually from the National school XC held 2 weeks previously. 


Alex and Avril had super runs in the Junior girls 3000m race to finish 22nd and 27th respectively . Their Irish team finished 4th overall. 

Lucy O'Keeffe had an outstanding performance in the Intermediate girls 4000m race to finish 17th overall. She was the 3rd scorer on the Irish team which took bronze. 

Emma Landers competed in the mixed 4 x 1500m relay. She had a terrific 3rd leg of the relay ,holding off tough competition to give her team an excellent chance heading into the final leg. The Irish team finished in silver medal position.

YOUGHAL AC

EXCITING NEWS!


            

In February work began in Youghal AC on a new running and hill track on the perimeter of the field.

This will be a 450m long by 2-metre-wide 50mm All Weather fibrillated carpet infill with dried silica sand and crumb rubber

This is phase one of a large development of Youghal Ac training grounds. Our long-term goal is to be East Corks premier Athletic training grounds

In the coming weeks fundraising will begin to help fund the work. All fundraising events will be on our website and Facebook page (members only)

We invite all members and non-members to come up and view our new facilities once they are open. Membership is now open for new and existing juvenile and Adults members.

Our full training schedule (Tuesday 6.15-7.15 Juvenile 7.30-8.30pm U14up and Adults, Thursdays 6.16-7pm Juvenile 7-8pm U14up and Adults) is hoped to be resumed in late April.

National Schools XC 09-Mar-2019

The National Schools XC was held on Sat 9th Mar in Clongowes Co. Kildare. Ground conditions on the day were very good which made this flat course extremely fast. 


Charlie O Neill representing Midleton CBS competed well in the Minor boys race. 

In the Junior girls 2500m race, Avril Millerick , St. Mary’s, had a super race to take silver closely followed by Alex Cashman (Pobal Scoil) 5th . Both girls securing places on the Irish team for the schools international to be held later this month. Erin Joyce , Eva Murphy and Natasha Kilgannon completed the Pobal scoil team which finished 6th overall.

Lucy O Keeffe put in a great performance in the Intermediate girls 3500m race to finish 6th overall. She was followed by Emma Landers 11th. Both girls also qualifying for the schools Irish team . Emma along with her team mates, Avril Cashman, Robyn Buckley, Rion Walsh and Lesley Cashman took bronze for Pobal Scoil in the team competition. 

Simon Upton competed in the senior boys race for Midleton CBS.

Munster Schools Indoors 06-Mar-2019

The Munster schools indoors were held in Nenagh on wed 6th Mar. Grace Rooney representing St. Mary’s Midleton had a super day, winning the Junior girls 60m sprints and taking bronze in the 60m hurdles. She also took silver with her school relay team which also included Avril Millerick.

Munster Indoors U12-19 23/24-Feb-2019

The Munster indoor championship U12-U19 was held in Nenagh on Sat 23rd and Sun 24th February . YOUGHAL AC had 12 athletes competing , with some super performances on the day.

In the U12 girls competition Autumn Devereaux took silver in the shot with a super 6.38m throw, she also competed well in the high jump long jump and was 4th in her 600m heat . Taylor Aherne was 3rd in her 600m heat and also competed well in the long jump. 

Dylan Cairns had a great run in the U13 boys 600m and finished 6th in the long jump with a 3.99m jump. Fionn Brennan also competed well in the long jump and was 6th in the 60m hurdles final

Poppi Devereaux had a busy day competing in the U14 girls 60m sprint, high jump and shot . She also qualified for 60m hurdle final. Sorcha Kilgannon was 3rd in her 800m heat and competed well in the high jump. 

Ben Walsh had a super day , winning the U14 boys shot with with a super 12m throw. He was also first in his 800m heat. Jude Buckley also had a great run in the 800m race.

Sophie Connon was 5th in the U15 girls high jump with a super 1.45m jump. Grace Rooney had an outstanding day taking gold in the 60m sprint  and the  60m hurdles.

Natasha Kilgannon took bronze in the 1500m walk. 

In the U18 boys 800m Connor O Neill took silver in 2.08 minutes.

Munster Schools XC 15-Feb-2019

The Munster schools XC was held in WIT on Friday 15th February. YOUGHAL AC had a number of athletes competing representing their different schools. There was a strong wind but near perfect ground conditions on this tough undulating course. 


Sorcha Kilgannon had a great run in the Minor girls race to finish 20th in a very competitive field. Charlie ONeill competed well in the Minor boys race to finish 30th and scored on the Midleton CBS team which won gold. 

Alex Cashman had a super run in the junior girls 2500m race to finish 2nd overall and was followed closely by Avril Millerick 4th. Erin Joyce finished 8th , followed by Eva Murphy 21st. Natasha Kilgannon completed the Pobal Scoil an Trionoide team which won team gold with all these girls qualifying for the Nationals. 

Emma Landers put in a fantastic performance in the Intermediate girls race to finish 3rd overall , closely followed by Lucy O Keeffe 4th . Avril Cashman finished well in 10th position , with an outstanding performance by Robyn Buckley 17th. Rion Walsh and Lesley Cashman completed this Pobal Scoil team which also won gold. 

Ciaran McNamee finished 33rd in the Intermediate boys race , with Eoin Brenner 46th. Simon Upton competed well in the Senior boys race to finish 21st and was a scorer in the Midleton CBS team which took team gold.

The Munster juvenile indoors U9-11 was held in Nenagh on Sat 9th February. YOUGHAL AC had 2 athletes competing on the day. Clodagh Walsh had a super run in the girls U10  500m race to finish 2nd in her heat . She also competed well in the long jump. Ruby Devereaux also had a fantastic run in his U10 boys 500m race to finish 4th in the fastest heat of the day. He also competed well in the long jump.
