East Cork Juvenile Awards Night - 28th Feb 2014

The East Cork Board had their annual awards night for All Ireland juvenile medal winners during 2013 in the East Cork clubs on 28th February. The awards night was held at the Vienna Woods hotel and was arranged by Carrignavar AC. It was a very enjoyable night and guests included Paddy Buckley County Board Chairman and his wife Pamela, Rob Heffernan, Marion Heffernan and their family and James McCarthy. The East Cork Board committee did tremendous work for this occasion.

The Youghal AC athletes who won awards included Emma Landers, Avril Cashman, Jake McCarthy, Lucy O’ Keefe and Fearghal Curtin. Well done to these athletes who did so well in Cross Country and Middle Distance. The Maureen O’ Connell trophy which was won jointly by Youghal AC and Midleton AC for the best girls club for Cross country in 2013 was also presented to Evelyn Cashman. East Cork Awards – Youghal AC

Avril Cashman

U10 Cross Country Counties– was 6th won individual and Gold team medal.

She won an individual Munster U10 medal when she came 8th and also a gold Cork team medal as she was the 6th scorer and a gold Club team medal

U11 Munster Cross Country– won individual medal when she came 10th and Cork team medal as she was the 6th scorer

Avril was 18th in U11 All Irelands in Waterford and won Cork gold inter-county medal as she was the sixth scorer.

Emma Landers

Track and Field

Emma won 2 County B medals in the sprint and 300m

Cross Country

U10 Cross Country Counties– was 4th and won individual and Gold team medal.

She won an individual bronze medal when she came 6th at the Munster U10 Cross Country and was the 4th scorer on the Cork team winning gold and also won a Gold team medal.

She won two medals at the All Ireland Bs in Dunboyne – came 4th and won silver inter-county medal and was 2nd scorer for Cork

Jake McCarthy

Track and Field

Jake was 3rd in the U13 County Bs in the 700m.

Jake was 9th in the U13 Munster U12 600m.

Cross Country

Jake was 2nd in the U13 County Cross Country and won a silver team medal in the U14 Cross Country.

He was 7th for Cork in the U14 Munsters and qualified for the Cork team.

Jake was 11th at the U13 Munsters winning a bronze medal and won a gold inter-county medal as he was the fourth scorer for Cork

Jake was 55th in the U14 All Irelands and was 5th scorer for Cork who came 5th.

Jake won an Inter-county medal when he was 6th scorer for Cork in the U13 All Irelands in Waterford – he was 42nd in this race.

Lucy O’ Keefe

Track and Field

Lucy was 3rd in the County U12 700m. She was 12th in the U12 600m at the Munsters.

Cross Country

Lucy won a silver team medal in the U13 County Cross Country Championships

Lucy was 8th in the U12 Munsters and won an individual medal. She was the 4th scorer on the Cork team which won Gold.

She was 23rd at the U13 Munsters and qualified for the U13 Cork team for the Nationals.

Lucy won a gold inter-county medal for Cork team in the U12 All Irelands and was the 5th scorer. She was 39th.

She also won a bronze Inter-county medal at the U13 All Irelands in Waterford- she was 61st and was the 5th scorer for Cork.

Fearghal Curtin

Track and Field

Fearghal won Junior Schools 1500m Munster and All Irelands.

He won a bronze Tailteann medal in the 3000m.

He won the U16 Counties 800m, 1500m and 3000m.

He won the Munster u16 1500m and 3000m. He was 2nd in the All Ireland U16 1500m and 3000m.

Cross Country

Fearghal won the U16 and U17 County Cross Country Championships.

He won the U16 Munster Cross Country and was 3rd in the U17 Munster Cross Country and also Cork team gold medals in both races.

He was 2nd in the U16 All Irelands and won three medals in this race - Cork and Munster team medals.

He was 8th in the U17 All Irelands and won three medals at this race – Cork and Munster teams as well as individual.

He represented Ireland in the Celtic International in Greenmount in January and led the U17 Irish team to victory. He won the individual Gold medal
