Post date: Nov 20, 2014 12:58:52 PM

Youghal AC had 26 athletes in action at the Munster Cross Country Championships in Newmarket on Fergus on 9th November. Weather conditions were good but the course was very challenging.

Girls U9

Eireann Barrett got the day off to a good start in the U9 race coming in 15th – she was so unlucky to miss out on the 6th Cork medal which went to the 11th placed athlete. A very good run for Eireann nevertheless!

Boys U9

Ben finished very strongly to come in 7th winning an individual Munster medal. He was also the third scorer on the Cork team which came 2nd. He won a silver inter-county medal. Jude who was running in his first race for the club ran well also and finished 58th.

Girls U11

These girls kept up their winning streak by winning the Club title by 13 points over Ennis Track. What a great result with 14 teams in the competition. Emma Landers led the team home in a super 4th place. Next in was Avril Cashman in 12th place. Both of these girls won Munster bronze individual medals. Avril Mellerick had a super run to finish 17th as did Alex Cashman in 20th place to conclude the team scoring. Next in were Eva Murphy 30th, Grace Rooney 42nd, Robyn Buckley 43rd, Erin Joyce 63rd and Chloe Pye 103rd. Rion Walsh was unfortunate as she had to pull out because of leg injury. It is tremendous to have a club team to qualify for the All Irelands in Santry on 7th December. Avril Cashman and Emma Landers will also qualify to run on the Munster team and both of these girls and Avril Mellerick will also run on the Cork team. Well done girls!

Girls U13

Lucy O’ Keefe had a very strong run in a very competitive field to come in 9th to win an indivual bronze medal. She was also the 5th scorer on a very strong Cork team which won gold. Eabha Walsh finished in 53rd, Kerrie Barrett finished in 67th and Lesley Cashman in 72nd. The team came 10th in a field of 19 teams.

Boys U13

Well done to Ciaran McNamee who finished well in 33rd and to Tom Wall in 40th and Darragh Buckley on 84th. Unfortunately the lads were short one for team.

Girls U15

A big well done to Tirna Cahill who was 63rd. Tirna has run all the races this season without her team and hopefully we will see them back next season.

Boys U15

The team finished 5th just short 5 point for 4th place which would qualify them for the All Irelands. Killian Nolan who was having a great race finishing in the top 12 had to pull out as he did not feel well. Jake McCarthy was 15th just short a few places to win the 6th Cork medal. He has qualified to run on the Cork team for the All Irelands. Next in were Simon Upton 27th, Eoin O’ Brien 35th, Dean Savage 41st and James Wall 74th. Simon just missed out on the Cork team for the All Irelands by one place. These lads have trained very hard and have all shown tremendous improvement. A team we will see qualifying for the All Irelands on another day! We all wish Killian a speedy recovery!

Girls U17

Well done to Emily O’ Keefe who also ran well in the U17 race.

Boys U17

Fearghal Curtin finished in 3rd place and has has qualified to run on the Munster and Cork teams for the All Irelands in Santry. Fearghal won an individual bronze medal and a gold inter-county medal.

The club will have nine athletes running in the All Ireland Uneven ages in Santry, Dublin on 7th December. Best of luck in your training and congratulations. There will also be a number of athletes eligible to run in the Munster B Championships in Carrignavar on 30th November – watch out for webtext for entries.
