East Cork T&F Championships (Day 1) 08-Apr-2018

The East Cork T& F CHAMPIONSHIP was held in CIT on Sunday 8th April marking the start of the T&F season. However the mud at the side of the track and the downpours on the day resembled more XC than T&F but this didn’t deter our young athletes who turned out in numbers on the day.

Youghal Ac had 4 athletes U9 competing for the first time. These included Caoimhe Brennan, Tess Cummins, Jane Ansbro and Ruby Devereaux. Caoimhe had a fantastic day, taking gold in the 60m sprint and bronze in the long jump. Aine Collins, Niamh Murray, Doireann Barry , Pearl Phipps and Lauren O Brien competed in the U10 girls sprints, 300m and turbo javelin. Lauren took silver in the turbo javelin. Leo Nicholson, Donnacha Coleman, Enda Terry, Quin Buckley and Conor Coffey competed in the U10 boys sprints, 300m and turbo javelin . Conor took bronze in the turbo javelin. The girl also competed well in the U10 relays, with Lauren, Aine, Doireann and Niamh taking silver and Caoimhe , Pearl, Jane and Tess taking bronze. Leo, Donnacha, Enda , Quin and Ruby took bronze in the U 10 boys relay.

Our U 11 girls , Taylor Aherne, Vivien Millerick, Amy Coleman, Autumn Devereaux and Emily Barry competed in the 80m sprints, 300m and long jump. Taylor had a great day qualifying for the sprint final and taking silver in the 300m. The girls also took a fantastic bronze in the U12 girls relay.

The U 11 boys , Finn Coleman, Jimmy Nicholson, Keelan Ansbro, Harry Fitzgerald, Cathal Brennan and Finn Connaughtan competed in the sprints, 300m and long jump. Harry and Keelan qualified for the sprint final . They all excelled in the 300m with Harry 1st , Finn Coleman 2nd , Jimmy 3rd and Finn Connaughtan 4th.

Clodagh Fitzgerald was the only U12 Youghal girl competing but was outstanding , taking silver in the 600m and bronze in the sprints.

Jack Coleman, Fionn Brennan ,Dylan Cairns and Paddy Nicholson competed in U12 boys sprints, 600m and high jump. Dylan and Fionn qualified for the sprint final. Finn Coleman, Dylan, Jimmy and Keelan took bronze in the U12 relay.

The U13 girls Poppi Devereaux , Eireann Barrett, Ruby Kennedy, Sorcha Kilgannon, Katie Ansbro, Ciara Wood and Alesha Barry competed in the sprints ,600m and long jump. Poppi, Ciara and Ruby qualified for the sprint final. Poppi took silver in the long jump and Ciara and Eireann took joint 3rd .

Jude Buckley, Lui Phipps, Ronin Joyce and Darragh Lyons competed in the U13 boys events.

Grace Rooney , Tara Hickey, Sophie Connon and Alex Cashman all qualified for the U14 girls 100m sprint final ,with Grace taking gold and Tara taking bronze. Grace also took silver in the javelin, while Tara and Sophie took gold and silver respectively in the high jump. Alex had a fantastic run in the 800m to take gold. These outstanding girls went on to take gold in the U14 relay.

Eva Murphy , Emma Landers and Avril Cashman all qualified for the U15 girls sprint final with Eva taking gold and Emma bronze. Emma won the 800m followed closely by Avril 2nd and Robyn Buckley had a great run to finish 4th. Natasha Kilgannon took silver in the discus. These girls won silver medals in the U16 girls relay. Erin Joyce competed in the javelin and Russell Wood competed in the U16 boys javelin.

Ciaran McNamee took silver in the U16 boys 800m with Dylan Lyons taking bronze. Dylan also won silver in the long jump and bronze in the 100m . Liam O Leary finished 4th in the sprints but took gold in the high jump.

Kerry Barrett took bronze in the high jump and bronze in the 800m. Lesley Cashman qualified for the sprint final and finished well in the U17-19 girls 800m.

Simon Upton had a good run in the U17-19 boys 800m.
