Aoife Cooke wins Munster Novice Title

Ladies team win Munster Novice Team Title

The Munster Novice Championships were held in WIT on 25th October. Thankfully the weather stayed dry but it was a very challenging course. The Youghal Ladies comtine to impress by winning the Munster team championship well. Aoife Cooke took an early lead which she increased after the first 1500m and she won comfortably. Ruth Mellerick also had a great race to finish in 4th just outside the individual medals. Evelyn Cashman showed very good fromalso finishing in a strong 7th place and Julie Kenneally finished the scoring in a very good 18th position. Lisa Walsh finished in 37th and Celia O’ Regan in 48th place. Youghal Ladies won the firdst team with a total of 29 points well ahead of Clonmel 2nd 79 points and Star of the Laune 3rd 106 points. Cork also won the Inter County section by a good margin over Kerry 2nd. Aoife Cooke was the first scorer and Ruth Mellerick was the third scorer. Evelyn just missed out on the fourth Cork medal and Julie Kenneally was also on the Cork team. There was a big haul of Munster gold medals by the Youghal Ladies.

In the Men’s Novice race Nigel Sheehan had his best race of the season to finish in 14th place. This was super running for Nigel in his first Cross Country season. Next in was Ed O’ Regan 57th, Finbar Kingston 58th, Vincent Lucey 59th, Dave McCarthy 61st and Tomas Ward 62nd, The Men;s team came 9th. Well done to all!
