Munster Even age XC 21-Oct-2018

The Munster Even age XC was held in Beaufort , Co.Kerry on Sunday 21st October. Youghal Ac had 35 young athletes competing, with some outstanding performances on the day. It was a wet , miserable day to start but improved during the day . Ground conditions were good however on this relatively flat fast course.

Our U10 girls were up first with great runs by Lauren o Brien, Aine Collins, Niamh Murray and Tess Cummins. Donnacha Coleman led the U10 Youghal boys home , followed by Conor O Sullivan, Leo Nicholson, Tadgh O Brien and Quin Buckley.

Taylor Aherne had a super run in the U12 girls race to finish 15th overall. She was the 6th scorer for the winning Cork team thus qualifying for the National XC . Vivien Millerick followed closely in 23rd position and also qualified for the All Ireland XC on the Cork team . Autumn Devereaux and Clodagh Fitzgerald completed this great team. Jimmy Nicholson had a great run in the U12 boys 2000m race to finish 45th.

The U14 girls were led home by Avril Millerick who had a terrific run to finish 10th overall winning an individual Munster medal. Emily Brenner also had a super run to finish 18th , followed closely by Sorcha Kilgannon 26th and Alex Cashman 29th. Grace Rooney, Izabella Chidlow and Ruby Kennedy completed this great team that won team bronze medals and qualified for the Nationals. Jude Buckley and Ronin Joyce , both running up an age , competed well in the U14 boys race.

Emma Landers and Avril Cashman had fantastic runs in the U16 girls 4000m race finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively , winning silver and bronze individual Munster medals. They were also 1st and 2nd scorers on the Cork team , taking gold county team medals. Erin Joyce 16th ,Eva Murphy 17th, Robyn Buckley 21st and Rion Walsh 33rd completed this super team which won club team gold medals, thus qualifying for the National XC . Eoin Brenner competed well in the U16 boys event . Ciaran McNamee had to retire due to injury.

In the U18girls race Lucy O Keeffe had a super race to finish 2nd overall , winning an individual silver Munster medal. She was also 1st scorer for the Cork team which took silver. Lesley Cashman 24th also qualified for the Nationals on the Cork team.

Conor O Neill had a great run in the U18 boys race to finish 9th overall , winning an individual Munster medal. He was also 4th scorer on the winning Cork team. Jake McCarthy 20th also qualified for the All Ireland XC on the Cork team.

Well done to all who competed and to the 18 athletes who qualified for the National XC in November . Keep up the training!
