19 Medals won by YOUGHAL AC Juveniles

U11 Girls – All Ireland Club team Champions

A huge congratulations to our 9 juvenile athletes who won a massive total of 19 medals at the All Ireland Cross Country Championships at Santry Demesne, Dublin on 7th December last. These athletes showed huge commitment to training throughout the season and the results truly reflected their efforts. Thanks also to the parents and coaches involved.

The U11 Girls team won the Club title 31 points ahead of Westport with Ennis Track in 3rd place. Youghal AC scored 99 points with Emma Landers in 5th, Avril Cashman in 22nd, Avril Mellerick in 32nd and Eva Murphy in 40th. The team also included Alex Cashman and Grace Rooney. There was tremendous excitement when the winners were announced and this was an amazing achievement out of a total of 17 teams. Emma Landers of course won an individual medal in 5th place and she was also the first scorer on both the Cork and Munster teams which both came first. Avril Cashman won Munster and Cork team medals. Alex Cashman and Avril Mellerick also won Cork team medals.

Lucy O’ Keefe had a very strong run in a super fast field in the U13 Girls race. She finished very strongly and was so unlucky to be three places out of the individual medals in 15th place. The girls finished very close together and some sections of the course were very tight. Lucy did very well winning both Cork and Munster gold team medals. She was the sixth scorer for Munster and the fourth scorer on the Cork team. Lucy also won a Cork team medal in Dundalk on the u14 Cork team.

Jake McCarthy also put in a very good performance in the U15 race finishing in 42nd place and was the sixth scorer on the Cork team. This was a great finish to his club season having won three medals in the U13 race in Dundalk including an individual placing.

Fearghal Curtin ran in the U17 race and showed improvement in form. Fearghal again competed in a very competitive and fast field and stayed in the lead group throughout. He had a strong finish coming in a good 3rd place. Fearghal won a bronze individual medal and was the first scorer on both the Cork and Munster teams which both came 3rd. Fearghal also won 3 medals in the U18 race in Dundalk in November.
