ALL IRELAND JUVENILE TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The All Ireland Juvenile Track and Field Championships were held over three days on 3rd, 11th and 12th July in Tullamore. On Day one Tirna Cahill competed in the Girls U15 Hammer event. Tirna came 6th with her best throw of 31.24m. This was a very good result for Tirna at her first All Ireland Championship. She shows great potential at this event. Brid McCarthy competed in the U17 100m and was 5th in her heat just outside qualification on day three.

Fearghal Curtin competed in the U18 3000m on 11th July. He led for most of the race with Shane Hughes in pursuit. Fearghal tired in the last 300m and finished in 2nd place. This was held on 11th July – day two. On 12th July Sean Broderick had a very good attempt at the U17 300m hurdles finishing in 4th place i a time of 42.28. Emily O’ Keefe also ran well in the U18 200m event just failing to qualify for a very competitive final. Killian Nolan had a very good run in the U16 1500m finishing in 7th place and achieving a Pb of 4.29.15; he had a very strong last 400m lap.

Lauren O’ Mahoney won the U19 Javelin competition 30.73m. This was a great achievement for Lauren to win her last Juvenile All Ireland Javelin event. Fearghal Curtin had to run in heat two of the U18 1500m in which he came 2nd in a time of 4.12.42. He went on to have a great race in the final which he won in a time of 4.01.73. Unfortunately Jake McCarthy was unable to go to All Ireland due to holiday arrangements. Well done to all these athletes who performed so well after such a long season.
