We had five athletes in action in the All Ireland Cross Country Championships in Sligo racecourse on Sunday 27th November. These athletes did the club proud and they won 7 medals and all put in superb performances on a very tough course.

Killian Nolan (Munster and Cork teams) and Jake McCarthy(Cork team) both got off to a good start in the B/12 race. Killian mingled in the top 14 from the start; at the halfway mark he advanced to 11th and in the final 200m he ran very fluently uphill to finish in 7th position. Jake McCarthy finished very well in 51st place in the upper third of the race which was very good as Jake was running up an age. Killian was delighted to win an individual medal, and Gold Munster and Cork team medals. Killian was the second scorer for Munster and the first scorer for Cork. Jake was delighted to win the sixth Cork medal as this was his first All Ireland medal.

Fearghal Curtin won the B/14 All Ireland title which is his fourth consecutive All

Ireland title. Fearghal had previously won the Munster and Cork titles this season

and was running on the Munster and Cork teams also. Fearghal ran an outstanding race; he was in the leading group throughout and with 500m to go there was a shuffling for places; Fearghal made a surge and powered uphill to a very good victory. He also won a Munster team medal; Cork was fourth.

Sarah O’ Sullivan ran on the Cork team in the Girls U/16 again running up an age. Sarah made great progress throughout the latter stages of the race and finished in a very good 47th place. Sarah won her first All Ireland medal as she was the sixth scorer on the Cork team which finished third.

Patricia Curtin also ran well in the Girls U/18 race. Patricia was running on the Cork team which did not finish in the medals on this occasion. Patricia is showing great improvement with each race particularly over this very long distance of 5,000m

A special word of thanks to Michelle Nolan for doing a super job in organizing accommodation. A great weekend was experienced by all. Many thanks to all the Coaches and parents in providing tremendous coaching and support to these athletes over a very busy few weeks. Some photos of the day available on our photos page.
