The County Masters Cross Country Championships were held in Conna on Sunday 1st November after the County B Juvenile Championships.

There were three teams from Youghal AC entered. Ruth Millerick had another fantastic run to win the overall race and the O35 category. Evelyn Cashman also ran strongly throughout in a group of three contending for 2nd position but felt unwell in the last 50 metres where she lost a few places. However she still finished in a very good 6th place overall and was 3rd O40. Next in was Lisa Walsh in 20th place and she was 4th O35. Celia O’ Regan concluded the scoring in a very good 28th place and secured her 3rd place in the 050 category in a very good sprint finish The Ladies won the second team O35. It’s been a brilliant season so far for the Youghal Ladies and hopefully more to come.

It was great to see two big teams in the Men’s race which was a huge field. Noel Curtin had a very strong race and finished in 18th place. He won the 050 category; the other scorers on the 050 team were Ed O’ Regan who was also 3rd 055 and 52nd overall, Dave McCarthy 59th and Dermot Ledingham 63rd. The 050 team won the second team medals. Great achievement!

In the 035 team Sean Ahern who is new to this event had a great run coming in 24th followed very closely by Ciaran Coleman 33rd and Paul Curley 34th. Finbar Kingston was the final scorer in 62nd place. Vincent Lucey also ran well on the team. This team came 6th in a hugely competitive field. This was a good achievement. Ed O’ Regan had reason to celebrate his birthday on the same day with all O’ Regan family members featuring in individual medals and so well deserved! Ed is not changing category for a few years! An enjoyable day was experienced by all who attended and well done again to the hosts, St. Catherines who did a splendid job! More photos available at www.youghalac.com/photos
