Well done to all 6 Youghal AC girls who took part in the All Ireland Schools T&F Championships, Tullamore on Saturday 04th June 2022.
Representing Pobalscoil na Trionoide were Poppi Devereaux, Sorcha Kilgannon, Emma Landers & Avril Cashman. Poppi & Sorcha both competed brilliantly in the Intermediate girls Pole Vault in which Sorcha cleared 2.75 to win herself bronze & Poppi cleared 2.90 to win Silver. Emma Landers had a super run in the Senior girls 3000M race where she ran a personal best time of 10.01.22 placing her in to a strong 4th position and Avril Cashman raced superbly in the Senior girls 1500M Steeplechase to win herself Silver in a PB time of 5.23.04. Representing St.Mary's High School were Grace Rooney & Avril Millerick. Grace had a great race in the 400M Hurdles where she placed 6th position in a PB time of 1.11.70 and finally Avril Millerick had an excellent run in the Senior girls 3000M race to win herself Silver in a PB time of 9.56.26.
Well done to Avril Millerick who has qualified to compete for Ireland at the Franconville International in Paris on June 19th after her performance at the recent Ireland schools T&F senior girls 3000mtr race.
In a high class field, where Youghal AC compatriot Emma Landers came 4th in a pb of 10:01, Avril finished 2nd in a time of 9.56.
Very few Junior women run 10mins any year so these performances are phenomenal particularly on a very windy Tullamore track.
Avril’s time of 9.56 ranks her Nr. 1 in the country for her age group and if conditions are more favourable on the day in Paris and with a bit of luck Avril could qualify for her 1st Major international competition (U18 European Championships), which will be held in Israel in July. Avril needs to achieve the qualifying standard of 9.45.
