National Even Age Cross Country Championships 26-Nov-2017

The National EVENAGE XC championship was held in Abbotstown ,Dublin on Sunday 26th November. Despite the cold weather, underfoot conditions were relatively good with just a few muddy patches throughout the course. YOUGHAL AC had 14 athletes competing on the day with all putting in super performances.

Sorcha Kilgannon was the first YOUGHAL athlete to set out on 2 laps of the 1k course in the U12 girls race. She had a fantastic run to finish 18th overall , winning a gold County team medal and a silver Munster team medal.

Our U 14 girls team were up next in the 3k race. Emma Landers led the team from the gun and had a super run to finish 5th overall winning an individual National medal. Avril Cashman was next home with a terrific run to finish 15th overall winning ,along with Emma , a MUNSTER silver team medal. Erin Joyce finished a fantastic 33rd , scoring along with Emma and Avril on the Cork team , which took silver. Eva Murphy and Alex Cashman battled all the way to the line to finish 42nd and 43rd respectively. Robyn Buckley completed this dream team that took club silver.

Lucy O Keeffe had a outstanding run in the U16 girls 4K race to finish 5th overall. In addition to winning an individual National medal, Lucy won silver Munster team and silver Cork team medals and secured a position on the Irish team in the Celtic international to be held later in the season. Lesley Cashman had a super race to finish 67th and won a silver Cork team medal. Ciaran McNamee had a good run in the U16 boys race.

Killian Nolan had a super run in the U18 boys race and won a silver Cork team medal. Simon Upton also had a great run . Unfortunately Jake McCarthy had to retire due to injury during the race.

Fearghal Curtin had a fantastic run in the Junior boys race and was pipped at the post for 3rd position.

Well done to all who competed with such outstanding achievements. Keep up the good work - uneven age still to come.
