Munster Track And Field Championships U/14–19 - 15th/16th June 2013

The above Championships were held on 15th and 16th June. Youghal AC athletes won 9 medals and qualified in 12 events for the All Irelands.
Fearghal Curtin won two Munster titles in both the U/16 1500m 4.18.65 and the 3000m 9.40.04 which is a new distance for him this year. Jennifer Hennessy also won two medals in the G/16 middle distance; she was narrowly pipped in the 800m to finish 2nd 2.28.61 and as 3rd in the 1500m, 5.31.49. Emily O’ Keefe competed in the 200m finishing 6th in her heat narrowly missing out on qualification for the final.
Lauren O’ Mahoney had a good win in the G/17 Javelin with a big PB of 34.41m. She was 2nd in the Shot with a throw of 9.54m. Newcomer Liam McCarthy was 4th in the B/14 80m and had a brilliant sprint in the 200m to finish 3rd a time of 26.80 winning his first Munster track medal. Ben Daly was 4th in the B/15 100m very narrowly missing out on the bronze medal. He finished 6th in the 200m.
Jack Daly won three medals in B/18 Shot 2nd 11.31m and 2nd in the Triple Jump 11.14m and 3rd in the Javelin 36.86m. Jack also competed in the 110m hurdles 4th 19.35 and was 6th in the 200m. Cian O’ Brien was 2nd in the B/16 High Jump 1.60m. Sean Broderick got injured in his very first event of the day B/15 80m hurdles when he landed badly on hurdle injuring his ankle. This was such a pity as Sean was in great form going into these Championships and had to pull out of his other events. The B/15 relay team were also very unlucky in the final and the tem included Eoin O’ Brien, Liam McCarthy, Sean Broderick and Ben Daly. More photos available at www.youghalac.com/photos
