COUNTY CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS – EVEN AGES

  • Fearghal Curtin wins U16 County title.

  • Jennifer Hennessy 4th in U16 race.

  • Jake McCarthy 2nd in U12 and Boys U12 team 2nd.

The first leg of the County Cross Country Championships, the even ages were held in Castlelyons last Sunday 7th October. The course was very well prepared and stewarded by St. Nicks and the weather conditions were perfect. The club had 45 athletes in action and it was great to see all athletes running so well and all really enjoyed their day. Well done especially to our new athletes! Thanks to all the parents and coaches who helped on the day.

Girls U16

Emily O’ Keefe and Jennifer Hennessy both put in solid performances in the u16 race. Jennifer finished in a super 4th place close to the front runners and won an individual medal. Emily finished in 14th place.

Boys U16

Fearghal Curtin had an outstanding race; he went out with the leading group and went into an early lead which he maintained and went on to win the race.

Girls U14

Well done to Tara Murphy 27th, Aine O’ Regan 32nd and Sarah Williams 42nd Unfortunately the girls were short one runner for a team.

Boys U14

This team did very well finishing in 4th place. First in was Eoin O’Brien 13th followed closely by Killian Nolan 15th, Rory Donnellan in 22nd and James Wall in 32nd place.

Girls U/12

This team finished also in a super 4th place out of 10 teams. Lucy O’ Keefe had a very strong run finishing very strongly in 8th place; she led the team scoring and was followed by Faith McEvitt 21st, Kerrie Barrett 30th and Eabha Walsh 45th to conclude team scoring. Next in was Annabella Pelylie 59th, Tirna Cahill 61st, Ciara Cantillon 53rd, Lauraleigh Baker 66th and Niamh O’ Brien 68th. Well done girls!

Boys U12

Jake McCarthy really showed great form and had a very strong finish battling it out with the leader. He finished in a very good 2nd position and was followed by Sam McSweeney 13th, Tom Wall 20th and Evan O’ Keefe 26th in scoring positions. Next in was Matthew Cody 36th, Dylan Lucey 45th, Dean Coleman 47th, Luke O’ Brien 49th, Adam O’ Brien 54th and Darragh Buckley 56th. The team finished a brilliant 2nd position with 61 points and the first six runners on the team received silver County medals. Well done lads!

Girls U10

These girls had great runs and include some very new runners who are only eight. The team finished in a very good 4th position in a field of 10 teams. First in was Aimee Morgan in 11th place who is showing great form this season. Next in was newcomer Lilianne Pelylie 23rd, Emma Landers 29th and Kira Fitzgerald 30th in scoring positions. They were followed by Rion Walsh 39th, Eva Murphy 52nd, Aobh Lynch 57th, Hazel Nolan 58th and Robyn Buckley 64th. Well done girls!

Boys U10

This team also included eight year old runners who ran very well in their first counties. The team was 10th. First in was David Buckley 27th, Ciaran McNamee 36th, Michael Wall 47th and Colm Landers 48th scoring for the team. Next in were Brian Coleman 58th, Ross Williams 66th and Darragh Leahy 75th. FORTHCOMING FIXTURES

The Counties for the Uneven ages is on next Sunday in Carrignavar with the juvenile programme starting at 1pm sharp – please support our Novice Mens team at 12 Noon and also Jessie Vankleek in the Ladies Novice race. Meet at 11.30am. Best of luck to all!

Entries for the Even Munsters in Beaufort, Killarney 21st October must be submitted on

Friday 12th October – please advise officials at training if you wish to be entered.

Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays in Tower Park at 7pm – Cross Country

Tuesday and Thursdays –Track and Field – older group.
