Munster Even Ages Cross Country Championships- 28th October 2013

Youghal AC had a very successful day at the Munster Even ages Cross Country Championships in Limerick Racecourse on 28th October. The course was very difficult and the weather conditions deteriorated for the older age groups.

Girls U10

The Girls U10 team won the Munster team Championships by almost 30 points. Superb running was performed by these young girls who have shown huge commitment in training. Emma Landers led the team on this occasion to finish in 6th place. Next in was Avril Cashman in 8th, Rion Walsh in 12th. The fourth scorer was Eva Murphy in 18th place. Avril Millerick was 29th, Alex Cashman 34th and Grace Rooney 57th. Emma, Avril and Rion got Munster bronze individual medals. Emma was 4th scorer on the Cork team and Avril was the 6th scorer so they also won gold inter-county medals. The team of course won gold team medals. Well done girls!

Girls U12

This team came 5th narrowly missing out on qualification for the All Irelands. Lucy O’ Keefe came 8th winning an individual medal and she was the fourth scorer on the Cork team which also came 1st so won an inter-county medal. Kerrie Barrett was 26th and made the first ten for Cork thus making the Cork team for the All Irelands. Aimee Morgan who is showing great improvement this season came 41st. Next in was Leslie Cashman 50th and Sarah Kate Dorgan 100th. This is definitely a team to watch out for!

Boys U12

This team came 15th and included Ciaran McNamee 44th, Tom Wall 83rd, Evan O’ Keefe 85th and Colm Landers 124th.

Girls U14

This team came 10th and included Karynn Collins 41st, Faith McEvitt 49th, Aine O’ Regan 38th and Tirna Cahill 71st.

Boys U14

The team came 6th. Eoin O’ Brien was first to score in 23rd place and was followed closely by Jake McCarthy in 26th place. Next in was Rory Donnellan i 61st and James Wall in 81st. Eoin was the 4th dscorer for Cork whichcame 2nd and he won a silver inter-countymedal. Jake narrowly missed out ona medal but nevertheless qualified for the Cork team for the All Irelands running up an age.

Girls U16

Emily O’ Keefe had a good race and finished in 43rd place. Jennifer unfortunately was unable to finish because of injury.

Boys U16

Fearghal Curtin got a bad start but made his way through the field and after 800m went into the lead. He had a good win to win the Munster individual title. He also won a gold inter-county medal as Cork had a very bigwin in this age group.

Arising out of this Championship the following athletes will compete at the All Ireland Even ages Cross Country Championship to be held in Santry Demesne, Dublin on 17th November.

Girls U12 – Lucy O’ Keefe – Munster and Cork team. Kerrie Barrett– Cork team.

Boys U14 – Eoin O’ Brien and Jake McCarthy – Cork team.

Boys U16 – Fearghal Curtin – Munster and Cork team.
