The club had 6 athletes in action at the Munster Schools Cross Country Championships at the CIT on 12th February.

Kerrie Barrett and Dylan Lucey ran in the Minor races for their school Pobalscoil Na Trionoide. Kerrie came 27th in a field of 82 and Dylan finished 37th in a field of 98. The standard was very high throughout all races and the pace was fast as ground conditions were dry but a little rough in places with one steep gravel hill.

In the Junior races Faith McEvitt, Jake McCarthy, Killian Nolan and Simon Upton were in action. Faith was 66th and her St. Marys team was 6th. The three club athletes, Jake, Killian and Simon ran in a very competitive race with all three running together for most of the Jubior Boys 3,500m race. Jake was 12th qualifying the All Irelands. Killian was 19th and his Christians team finished 2nd qualifying for the All Irelands. Simon finished in 24th the fist scorer for the Midleton CBS team which came 7th.

In the Intermediate girls race Emily O’ Keefe was 48th and her St. Marys team was 7th. Fearghal Curtin won the Intermediate Boys 5,000m race with Eoin O’ Brien coming in 26th the second scorer on their Midleton CBS team which came 3rd.

Best of luck to Jake McCarthy, Killian Nolan, Eoin O’ Brien and Fearghal Curtin who will now run in the All Ireland Schooll Cross Country Championships in Clane, Co. Kildare on 7th March next. Well done to all athletes who all ran very well in competitive fields. More photos available at www.youghalac.com/photos
