February '23 Round Up

04th/5th February 2023 - John Treacy & European Club Cross Country

The first weekend of February '23 saw a busy racing schedule, with our U20 Junior Women travelling to Oropesa Del Mar, Spain to represent the club at the European Club Cross Country Championship U20 race on Sunday 5th February 2023 and our adult road runners heading to Dungarvan to take part in the John Treacy 10 mile race.

With an 11am start in Dungarvan/ many of the adult section were able to put the feet up and watch the U20 girls on YouTube for the streamed event in Spain. The 'Dream Team' did not disappoint putting on a great performance to claim 6th team, with Avril Millerick coming home in 11th place in the individual race. FULL REPORT TO FOLLOW

67 registered athletes from Youghal AC make the short journey over the county bounds to Dungarvan for the John Treacy 10mile road race.. Our biggest representation at a race for many a year, if at all. Runners were greeted with perfect running conditions and the host club put on a great show. Great camaraderie was on display and spirits were high on the line for an 11am start.. PB’s were plentiful and all our athletes did the club proud. The midweek training sessions under the guise of Dee, Louise, Georgie and Co paying off in abundance

Massive congrats to Luke O’ Shea who smashed the 75min mark on his way to being 1st Junior and Rory Fitzgerald who in his first race in club colours came 2nd Junior..

Well done to all who represented the club and to those who turned out afterwards in The Nook for our post race social outing. Hope the hangovers are worth it...

Well done to our athletes who represented us with aplomb at the National Indoor Senior Championships over the weekend (21st February '23).

Barry Healy won a national senior silver medal in the 56lb WFD and Sorcha Kilgannon equalled her PB of 2.95m whilst gaining valuable major competition experience in the Pole Vault.

Keep up the good work over the coming months.

A total of 213 runners toed the line for the annual Killeagh 4-mile road race, which was held on Sunday the 26th of February. Runners were treated to pretty good race conditions – cool with a stiff easterly breeze for the second half.

Youghal AC were well represented with 31 runners. The support of family, friends and clubmates on the sides of roads was fantastic and much appreciated. The spread put on by Killeagh GAA was most welcomed and the cuppa after the race was warming.

Ciaran McNamee put in a great display of running to finish 6th overall and our junior runners Jude Buckley and Luke O’ Shea ran with aplomb to claim 1st and 2nd respectively in the junior standings. Ailise Barry also claimed 1st JF in a clean sweep of the junior categories for Youghal AC athletes. Lady captain Janette O’ Sullivan claimed 1st F40 and the ever-consistent Claire ‘Claire Bear’ Murphy claimed 2nd F50.

Well done to all participants on the day 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️
