ALL IRELAND SILVER FOR U 11 YOUGHAL GIRLS

The rain stopped, the wind eased off and things began to look up for our juvenile athletes as they headed to Dungarvan for the National uneven age XC championship on Sunday 6th December. Conditions were surprisingly good to start despite the horrendous weather the previous few days. However it got a bit sticky and muddy underfoot as the day went on due to continuous traffic on the already damp course.

Our U11 girls got the club off to a great start with brilliant running by all the girls to win All Ireland silver club team medals. Avril Millerick led the team home with a terrific run to finish 5th overall closely followed by Sorcha Kilgannon 7th. Both girls getting individual National medals. Alex Cashman was next home in 43rd position. Avril, Sorcha and Alex were all scorers on the winning Cork team and got gold county team medals. Eireann Barrett was next in 65th position followed by Grace Rooney 93rd and Tara Hickey 98th. Well done girls on a super performance.

The U13 girls were up next and were led home by Emma Landers in 35th position. Emma was a scorer on the winning Cork team and got a gold county team medal. Eva Murphy was next in 38th position followed by Avril Cashman 50th and Erin Joyce 59th. Robyn Buckley and Rion Walsh completed the team coming 71st and 99th respectively. A great run, after an unfortunate start, by these girls who were all U12 's running up an age .

Ciaran McNamee had a super run in the U13 boys race staying with the leading group from the start. He finished 5th overall obtaining an individual National medal and was the 1st scorer for Munster , getting a silver provincial medal.

Lucy O Keeffe ran well in the U 15 girls race to finish a terrific 16th . She was the 1st scorer for Cork , winning a bronze county team medal. A brilliant result for Lucy who was running up an age.

Jake McCarthy had a brilliant run in the U15 boys race to come 7th overall and win an individual National medal. He was also on the Cork and Munster teams and added a silver provincial and silver county medal to the tally .

Aine O Regan had a great run in the U17 girls race to finish 73rd but was just outside the scoring for the Cork team.

Killian Nolan, also running up an age had a great run in the U17 boys race to finish 42nd overall and win a bronze county team medal.

Well done to all who competed. It was a huge achievement for the club just to have competitors in all bar one race , not to mention the brilliant results on the day. You can all relax now and have a well earned Christmas break.
