Youghal AC had a successful outing at the Munster uneven ages Cross Country Championships in Waterford on 11th November. It was a very tough hilly course but nevertheless weather conditions were excellent. Emma Landers got the day off to a flying start by coming in 7th to win an individual medal and she was the 4th scorer on the Cork team which was first in the inter-county section. Her team mates all had excellent runs; next in was Rion Walsh 18th, Eva Murphy 37th, Ella Fleming 49th and Joy Nicholson 50th. Their team came 4th and were just short 3 points for the 3rd position. The Boys U/9 team came 10th in the team competition and included Darragh Leahy 45th, David Buckley 57th, Michael Wall 62nd, Tom Fleming 65th and Sean O’ Connor 66th.

Lucy O’ Keefe and Kerrie Barrett got off to an excellent start in the G/11 race with the leading group. Lucy finished very strongly in 5th position which won her an individual medal and she was the 3rd scorer on an excellent Cork team. Kerrie also finished very well in 15th place just outside the individual medals but she was the 5th scorer on the Cork team. Next in were Aimee Morgan 50th, Lilianne Pelylie 84th, Caoilfhionn Barry 93rd, Hazel Nolan 114th and Lucy Nicholson 123rd. The team came 5th with a score of 154 points which was just 14 points short of qualification for the All Irelands.

The Boys U/11 team included Tom Wall 46th, Evan O’ Keefe 63rd, Colm Landers 98th and Cian Nicholson 116th. The Girls U/13 team included Faith McEvitt 36th who finished just two places outside of Cork team qualification for the All Irelands. Next in were Aine O’ Regan 67th, Ciara Leahy 85th, Orla Cowhig 87th, Tirna Cahill 93rd and Annaballa Pelylie 96th.

Killian Nolan ran very well in the B/13 race holding on to the leading group from the start; he finished 9th and won an individual medal and was the 4th scorer on the victorious Cork team. Eoin O’ Brien finished in 21st and narrowly missed out on a Cork medal. These lads were followed by Jake McCarthy 28th, Matthew Cody 41st, Rory Donnellan 56th, Sam McSweeney 62nd and James Wall 88th. The team came 4th and were just short 4 points for the bronze medals. However the 4th position place qualifies them for the All Irelands.

Jennifer Hennessy ran in the U/15 race. She finished strongly to come in 9th and won an individual medal and she was the 4th scorer in the Cork team. Fearghal Curtin ran a very strong race and led from the start almost. He got a good lead on the main hill and went on to win the U/15 Munster title and led the Cork team to victory. The Cork teams won all the County titles U/9 to u/19 which is excellent to see standards have improved so much in Cork this year.
