National Even Age XC 25-Nov-2018

The National evenage XC was held in Abbotstown on Sunday 25th November. Youghal AC had 18 athletes competing on the day. Despite all the rainfall the previous week, ground conditions were relatively good.

The U12 girls 2000m races was the first of the day and Vivien Millerick and Taylor Aherne competed on the Cork team. Both put in great performances with Vivien scoring for the Cork team, winning a bronze County team medal.

Our U14 girls were up next with Avril Millerick leading the Youghal girls home in 23rd position, winning a silver Munster medal and gold Cork team medal. Emily Brenner had a super run to finish 24th , closely followed by Alex Cashman 28th . Sorcha Kilgannon, Izabella Chidlow and Grace Rooney completed this team which finish just outside medal position in 4th.

Emma Landers had an outstanding run in the U16girls 4000m race to finish 5th overall , winning an individual national medal , in addition to a Munster silver and Cork team gold medal. Avril Cashman was next home in 38th position, followed by Eva Murphy 57th . Both girls also winning County team gold medals. Erin Joyce 72nd, Robyn Buckley and Rion Walsh completed this super team which took club team bronze.

In the U18 girls race Lucy O Keeffe put in a fantastic performance to finish 4th overall , winning an individual National medal as well as a Munster silver medal. She also finished 13th in the combined junior girls race and was the 2nd scorer on the winning Cork team . Lesley Cashman also competed well in this 4000m race.

Jake McCarthy competed in the U18 boys race finishing 26th overall, winning a Cork bronze medal. Simon Upton competed well in the junior men’s race.
