East Cork Juvenile Even Ages Cross Country Championships 20-Sep-2015

Wind, rain , hardship.........XC season is back!

The East Cork even age juvenile xc championship were held on Sunday 20th September at Ballyknock , Conna marking the start of the xc season. The hosts ,St Catherine's AC had prepared a very good but challenging course.

The U10 girls were up first with a strong team of 6 girls. Emily Brennar got the club off to a great start coming 2nd overall followed closely by Eireann Barrett 4th, Poppy Devereaux 8th , Rachel Murray 9th , Ruby Kennedy 14th and Katie Ansbro 15th. These girls showed great team spirit and were rewarded with silver team medals.

The U10 boys lined up next for another tremendous 1000m race. These boys also finished close together to ensure another silver team medal , with Aidan McNamee finishing 5th , Paddy Nicholson 10th , Ben Walsh 11th, Dylan Parker 14th , Ronan O Brien 16th, Peter Buckley 22nd and Fionn Brennan 27th.

The biggest field of the day seemed to be the U12 girls where the green and white of Youghal AC was well represented. This super bunch of girls had a brilliant 1500m race where unfortunately it was team mate against team mate all the way to the finish. Emma Landers had a great run to come 1st with Avril Cashman taking the 2nd podium position. Next to finish was Avril Millerick 4th , closely followed by Robyn Buckley 5th. Alex Cashman held on to finish 7th , with Eva Murphy, Rion Walsh and Erin Joyce battling it out all the way to the line to finish 8th, 9th and 10th. Grace Rooney ran well to finish 22nd , followed by Joy and Juliette Nicholson 24th and 32nd respectively. Well done to all these girls who secured a team gold .

Another silver team medal for the U12 boys . Rory Motherway had a super run to lead the team home , coming 6th overall. Ross Williams came 12th closely followed by Christian Millerick 15th, Alex Kennedy 17th and Christopher Buckley 19th. Great team work boys.

We were lucky to have the bare team of 4 in the U 14 girls race with Lucy O Keeffe , Lesley Cashman , Lucy Nicholson and Kerry Barrett lining up on the start line. These girls had to face the hill twice on their 2000m race . Lucy O Keeffe kept a good steady pace but had a super injection of speed in the final 100m to secure the 3rd podium position. Lesley finished strongly in 7th position with Lucy Nicholson 16th. These girls all got bronze team medals.

The U14 boys had a great run with Ciaran McNamee finishing 4th , Cian Nicholson 8th and Daragh Buckley 15th. Unfortunately after doing so well in a tough race they were short one person to score for a team .

As the showers began , it was decided to run the U16 boys, U16 girls and U18 girls races together. The Youghal boys were very strong with Simon Upton leading the way to come 2nd overall. Killian Nolan also secured an individual finishing 3rd. Dean Savage and Dylan Lucey were next to score for the team coming 9th and 10th respectively with Tiarnan McCarthy 12th and James Wall 15th. Well done boys on hard earned gold medals.

The U16 girls also ran a great 3000m race to obtain bronze team medals. Karen Collins had a super race finishing 5th overall, closely followed by Aine O Regan 10th and Sarah Williams 12th.

Emily O Keeffe had a great run in the U18 girls race. She was unfortunate after such a strong run to just miss out on an individual medal, coming 4th overall.

The U18 boys concluded the juvenile races and Calum Lynch didn't disappoint bringing home a silver medal in a tough 4000m race.

Well done to all who participated and a big thanks to St.Catherines our hosts , the East cork board and to Youghal Credit Union our sponsors.
