County Track and Field Championships Day One - 5th May 2013

Post date: May 12, 2013 7:50:23 PM

Youghal AC had a large contingent of athletes in action at Day one of the County Track and Field Championship in CIT on 5th May.

Most of the juveniles and parents/caoches were donned in the new club hoodies which looked very well. A total of 19 medals were won between Track and Field events.

The numbers were huge and they had heats in all the Middle Distance races up to U/13 so the athletes had to focus on times which is difficult for younger athletes but nevertheless many of our newer athletes were in top six in the races. We also had a number of athletes who qualified for the semi-final of the sprints including Enda Cronin in B/11, Robert Cahill and Peter Buckley in B/13 and Faith McEvitt in G/13. Both Lilianne Pelylie G/11 and Brid McCarthy G/15 qualified for the final and did exceptionally well but just outside of the medals. Eoin O’ Brien was a good fourth in the B/14 1500m and Rory Donnellan and James Wall also did very well. The medal winners included the following;

Well done to all athletes who are too numerous to mention and look forward to seeing you all compete at Day two of the Championships on May 12th in Cit. Also a big thanks to our club coaches who gave their day to officiating at Day one on behalf of the club including Frank Morrisson, Brian Landers, Sharon O’ Mahoney and Maurice Cahill. The club has to provide officials on each day of competition at Counties and Munsters. More photos available at www.youghalac.com/photos
