SOUTH MUNSTER BOYS TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
The boys section of the South Munster Track and Field Championships were held at the Cit last Friday in atrocious weather conditions. Heavy winds and heavy rain persisted throughout with wet conditions underfoot for all competitors. In the Junior section there were very good results for club athletes in Middle distance. Simon Upton came 2nd in the 800m having led for most of the race and was just passed close to the finish line. His time was 2.16.97. Killian Nolan had a good race also in the 1500m coming in 2nd in a time of 4.44.97. Killian had a close battle with the third finished but got the better in the last 400m. Eoin O’ Brien also had a good race in the mile event finishing in 5th place. Killian was competing for Christians, Cork and Simon for Midleton CBS. Well done also to Liam McCarthy who came 2nd in the 200m and narrowly misssed out on medal position in the 100m. Liam was competing for St. Colmans in Midleton.
In the Intermediate section Ben Daly and Sean Broderick had good runs in the 4 x 100m relay to come 2nd. Both lads also competed at the Long Jump. Fearghal Curtin had a good run in the 3000m Intermediate race. This was run in conjunction with the Senior Boys 5000m which was reduced to 3000m because of the weather conditions. Fearghal won but couldn’t improve on time due to waterlogging on the lanes. His time was 9.07. All the Intermediate lads compete for Midleton CBS. More photos available at www.youghalac.com/photos
Well done to all these athletes who now have qualified for the Munster Schools in the Cit on 16th May together with Jake McCarthy, Aine O’ Regan , Sarah Williams and Kerrie Barrett form the East Munsters and Lauren O’ Mahoney from South Munsters. Very best of luck on Saturday and hoping for improvement in weather conditions!
