Nov 21 National & Munster Junior Women’s & Men’s Cross Country

2021 marks the beginning of a bright future for our club in the Junior (U17-U20) Women’s cross country category.

This young team comprising of U17 athletes Avril Millerick, Alex Cashman, U18 athletes Emma Landers, Avril Cashman, Robyn Buckley & U20 athlete Lucy O’Keeffe impressed in the Munster Championships where they won Club Team Gold with a score of 27 points. Avril Millerick won Individual Silver & was followed closely by Emma finishing 5th, Avril Cashman 6th, Lucy 14th, Alex 20th & Robyn 34th.

This very same team represented us again in a highly competitive field at the All-Ireland Junior Women’s Cross Country Championship in the picturesque Santry Demesne, November 21st in ideal calm, sunny, dry conditions. The race began at blazing speed with many of our team runners at the head of the field maintaining a quick tempo throughout, all finishing strongly to score 89 points winning them All-Ireland Junior Club Team Silver. Avril Millerick placed 9th, Emma 17th, Avril Cashman 21st, Lucy 43rd, Alex 53rd & Robyn 101st. Three of these girls Avril Millerick, Emma Landers & Avril Cashman were three of the top 4 scorers for the Cork Team securing them All-Ireland County Junior Team Gold to boot. Congratulations all!

We had 2 athletes for the Junior Men’s category who both had a great runs in the Munster Championships where U17 Liam placed 21st & U19 Ciaran placed 15th securing him a place on the Cork Team for the National Junior Men’s race in Santry where again Ciaran had a great run to place 52nd helping the Cork Team to Silver and Liam followed closely with an excellent run to finish in 70th place
