Youghal AC had 50 athletes in action at the Uneven ages Cross Country Championships in Conna on Sunday 12th October. A total of 24 juvenile medals were won including 5 individual medals and 19 team medals.
U9 Teams
Our U9 athletes completed their first County Championship race and it was fantastic to see these athletes complete and enjoy their races. Erin Barrett came 5th winning a bronze medal. Indeed the team was unlucky not to be in the medals as the scoring was very good. The team included Aoibhe Daly 21st,Poppy Devereaux 22nd, Aileen Hallahan 40th, Robby Kennedy 42nd and Katie Ansboro 46th.
Ben Walsh had a great run at the front of the field in the Boys U9 race and won the bronze medal in 5th place. Daniel Nolan also had a fine run to finish 7th just outside the individual medals. Well done also to Sean Lynch 41st and Ronan Joyce 49th.
U11 Teams
The club had a very strong team in the Girls U11 also including the U10 Girls who won the U10 title the previous week. This team won the team title by a huge margin and Emma Landers came 3rd. All the girls ran very strongly and came in very close together. The team included Emma Landers 3rd, Rion Walsh 7th, Avril Cashman 9th, Eva Murphy 10th, Avril Millerick 12th, Joy Nicholson 15th, Alex Cashman 16th, Robyn Buckley 17th, Grace Rooney 20th, Sophia Connon 35th, Jayne Savage 65th and Juliette Nicholson 68th. The boys U11 team included Charlie O’ Brien 37th, Charlie O’ Neill 43rd, Ross Williams 50th, Christopher Buckley 56th, Christian Millerick, 60th, Alex Kennedy 64th, Michael Wall 70th and Sean O’ Connor 73rd.
U13 Teams
Our girls team included Kerrie Barrett 19th, Aoibhe Walsh 43rd, Leslie Cashman 53rd and Hazel Nolan 57th. Two of these girls had played a football match earlier in the morning so well done for competing. The Boys team came third and included Tom Wall 16th, Ciaran McNamee 18th, Evan Villis 24th, Cian Nicholson 31st, Colm Landers 47th, Eoin Fitzgerald 50th and Darragh Buckley 52nd. Well done lads and some of these won team medals in the U14 team the previous week.
U15 Teams
The Boys team won silver medals. Jake McCarthy had a very strong run coming in 5th to win an individual medal. Unfortunately on the day two of the lads Killian Nolan and Rory Donnellan didn’t feel great and Simon Upton injured his leg. Nevertheless Killian was the second scorer; James Wall was 3rd scorer and Dean Savage was 4th scorer. Also on the team was Dylan Lucey who is also running well this season. Well done lads
The girls were short one for team scoring and a big well done to Karynn Colllins 26th, Sarah Williams 28th and Tirna Cahill 33rd. Aine O’ Regan is sorely missed this season and looking forward to seeing her back over the next feew weeks.
U17
Fearghal Curtin won the U17 title. He led from the first lap and was chased by a Leevale and North Cork runner. However he maintained the lead and came in to win.
