ALL IRELAND SILVER FOR YOUGHAL U12 GIRLS TEAM

A bright crisp day greeted the early arrivals at Santry Demesne on Sunday 22nd for the National Inter club XC championship. Youghal had 17 juvenile athletes competing and they didn't disappoint bringing home 16 all Ireland medals and displaying tremendous talent among Ireland's best.

The U12 girls were up first and Emma Landers led this super team home to finish 15th overall. She was the 5th scorer for Munster winning a silver provincial medal and 3rd scorer for Cork , getting a gold county medal. Erin Joyce was next home in 19th position followed closely by Eva Murphy 22nd and Avril Cashman 25th. Erin and Avril were also on the winning Cork team and so received gold county medals too. Avril Millerick and Robyn Buckley completed the team in 58th and 59th position respectively. Well done girls on a brilliant race and on winning silver All Ireland club team medals narrowly missing out on gold by 2 points.

Lucy O Keeffe and Lesley Cashman were up next in the U14 girls 3000m race. Lucy had a terrific race to finish in 13th place just outside the individual medals. She did however score for both Munster and Cork teams to bring home provincial and county gold medals. Lesley also had a great run as did Aine O Regan in the U16 girls race. Both girls coming 9th for their respective Cork teams.

Despite injuries the U16 Youghal boys were able to field a strong team. Jake McCarthy led the team home to finish 12th overall and win an individual National medal. He also won a gold Cork team medal as did Killian Nolan who was next home in 28th position. Killian was also a scorer for the Munster team winning a silver provincial medal. Tiarnan McCarthy and Dylan Lucey completed the team. Eoghan O Brien after a great start had to retire due to illness.

Emily O Keeffe ran well in the U18 girls race to complete the scoring for the Cork team. Unfortunately Cork were just outside the medal position in 4th place.

Fearghal Curtin and Calum Lynch lined up for the U18 boys race . Despite injury Fearghal managed to complete the 6000m race . Unfortunately both were on the Cork team which finished 4th.

Well done to all who competed and remember you ran against the best in the country. More photos available at www.youghalac.com/photos
