September '24 Round Up

September 7, 2024

Four fabulous Youghal AC athletes took to the road to  the kingdom on Saturday for the Dingle marathon and half marathon. First up Ger O Leary and Donal Sheahan competed the half marathon in style with Ger coming finishing in 2:07:39 and Donal in 2:10:56.

Paul and Kate McFarland chose to run their first marathon on the difficult course but absolutely smashed it with two fantastic marathon times of 4:24:23 and 4:31:27 respectively. What an achievement. Congratulations to you all. 👏👏👏👏

Weekly Round-Up 15/09/2024

Where to start!? A busy weekend for our athletes near and far..

First up was our lone participant at the Medieval 30km in Kilkenny on Saturday morning, Thomas Cliffe put on a great display of running finishing in a time of 2:39:58. Great prep race for his upcoming Dublin Marathon at the end of October

On Sunday morning, as some of our senior athletes made their way to Charleville ½ Marathon and to the Kyle King of the Hill 5km, our juveniles made their way to East Cork Even Age Cross Country in Conna. They represented the club with aplomb and came away with many individual and team medals (* results to follow). Adam King flew the flag at the Ardmore AC junior athletics event in wet and windy conditions, throwing close to a PB in the turbo javelin event – also coming home with a medal….

Well done to Keith Kelly (1:16:36), Brendan Coleman, Anna (1:47:57) & Krzysztof Pawlik (1:46:58), Antoinette Keating 1:51:09), Donal Sheahan on great runs at the Charleville Half marathon. Kudos to James O’ Mahony (1:32:06) who wore the green and white singlet for the first time and to Trisha Curtin on an 11 min PB in 1:32:41

Well done also to our large group of athletes, young and not so young, who stayed local for the Kyle 5km. The weather cleared up nicely in time for race start and some great performances were recorded. Special mention to Tom O’ Neill and John Mason, who were second and third overall respectively and Susan Dineen was second female overall. First Male Junior was Jacob Walsh and First Female Junior was Sophie McCarthy, with Russell Cronin and Co coming in first family. Rob Moynihan was M35 1st with Maurice Walsh M35 2nd. Mike McMahon was M45 1st, Brian Landers M55 2nd, Eddie O’ Regan M65 1st and Seamus Stone M65 2nd. Emer Hannigan F45 2nd. Well done to Marie Trihy on her first ever race – first of many to come

Well done to our athletes who took part in the Moby Dick triathlon (*swim cancelled) on Saturday and to those out completing their long runs in preparation for upcoming marathon events over the coming months.

Super well done to the gang of ladies who represented Youghal AC at the Women’s mini marathon today in Cork. They all look like they had a great day out. Our adult members Marie Trihy, Lisa O Connell and Mary O Mahony did our club proud but a big shout out to Kate, Emma and Sophie for representing us so well at such a young age. Ones to watch for the future. Well done to you all.

Following on from our inaugural half marathon and 10km race in August, we were delighted to present €3,500 to local organisation meals on wheels. €2 from each entry was donated to this great cause. Thanks again to everyone for supporting our event.
