South Munster Schools Track and Field Championships and East Munster Schools - 10th May 2013

Day two of the South Munster Schools Track and Field Championships were held in CIT on Friday 10th May. Conditions were again windy and cold. Youghal AC had six athletes in acton for their respective schools. Emily O’ Keefe, Jennifer Hennessy and Lauren O’ Mahoney were competing for St. Mary’s High School, Midleton.

Emily came Ist in the 100m Junior Girls Heat and 8th in the final. Jennnifer finished 4th in the Intermediate Girls 1500m race. Lauren O’ Mahoney did very well in the Intermediate Girls Shot coming 2nd with her best throw of 7.96m . Jennifer also competed in the Intermediate Girls relay; the team finished 4th in a very competitive race.

Jack Daly, Sean Broderick, Ben Daly and Fearghal Curtin represented Midleton CBS. Jack won his 100m Intermediate heat and finished 3rd in a close finish in the final. Ben was 2nd in the Junior 100m heat and finished an unlucky 4th again in a tight finish. Sean Broderick finished 3rd in the Junior High Jump 1.55m on count back. Fearghal Curtin won the Junior 1500m in a time of 4.22.14. Jack also competed in the Midleton CBS relay teamwhich gave a magnificient display and won in a time of 46.98.

The East Munsters were held in Templemore on 9th May. Cian O’ Brien came 2nd in the Intermediate High Jump with his best jump of 1.55m.

Best of luck to Lauren O’ Mahoney (Intermediate Shot and Javelin), Patricia Curtin (Senior Javelin), Jack Daly (Senior relay), Sean Broderick (Sprint Hurdles, Junior Relay and High Jump), Cian O’ Brien (Intermediate High Jump), Ben Daly(Junior relay) and Fearghal Curtin (Junior 1500m) in the Munster Schools Track and Field Championships in CIT on Saturday 18th May. These athletes will be striving to qualify for the All Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships to be held in Tullamore on 1st June. Programme is available on Munster Athletics website.
