The club had six athletes in action at the South Munster Schools cross country championships at the Munster agricultural grounds in Curraheen on Friday 29th January last. Conditions were atrocious and the distances had to be reduced substantially.

In the Minor girls race Lucy O’ Keefe ran very strongly from the start and finished very strongly in 2nd place winning an individual silver medal. Her team from St. Mary’s High school came 3rd.

In the Intermediate race Killian Nolan ran a solid race and came in 9th place in a tightly packed group and qualified for the Munster schools. Eoin O’ Brien also ran well to finish in 28th place and his team from Midleton CBS came 3rd. Tirnan McCarthy also did well coming in 43rd place and his Midleton College team came 6th.

In the Senior girl’s race Emily O’ Keefe ran very well to come 12th and her school team came 3rd. In the Senior Boys Fearghal Curtin making a comeback after injury finished strongly in 3rd. Well done to these athletes in awful conditions. More photos available at www.youghalac.com/photos
