The Munster B Cross Country Championships were held in Carrignavar on Sunday 30th November on a glorious day. There were very big numbers in the younger age groups leading to some stiff competition.

The club had two boys in the U9 race, Jude Buckley and Rona Joyce. Both lads ran very well. Jude Buckley finished in an excellent 19th position and was the 5th scorer on the Cork team which came 2nd. Ronan also showed great improvement coming in 58th place. Well done boys!

The girls U11 team were so unlucky to finish 4th just two points short for 3rd place. Rion Walsh had a great race to finish 7th winning a bronze individual medal. She was also the 3rd scorer on the Cork team which came 1st. Robyn Buckley was 25th, Erin Joyce was 35th and Chloe Pye 71st.

The club had two boys in action in the U11 race. Charlie O’ Brien finished in 40th place and Michael Wall in 97th.

The Girls U13 team came 9th and included Kerrie Barrett, Eabha Walsh, Leslie Cashman and Hazel Nolan. Kerrie Barrett finished in 10th to win a bronze individual medal and was unlucky to be just outside the Cork medals by one position. Eabha finished in 26th, Leslie in 52nd and Hazel in 94th.

In the Boys U13 race Ciaran McNamee was unlucky to be just outside the individual and Cork medals by two places when he finished in a good 14th position. Well done also to Eoin Fitzgerald who was 39th and Darragh Buckley 60th.

The Boys U15 team did very well and finished in 2nd team placings. The team included Simon Upton, Eoin O’ Brien, Dean Savage, Dylan Lucey and James Wall. Simon and Eoin were to the front of the field from the start with all five lads in the first twelve for half of the race. There was a super finish with Simon sprinting from 4th place to win the race and Eoin finishing in 4th. Dean was unlucky to finish in 15th place with the 6th Cork medal going to the 14th place and just outside the individual placings. Dylan Lucey and James Wall both also gave very solid performances. It was excellent to see both Simon and Eoin in the first twelve. The lads also scored on the Cork team which won gold so both lads got three medals.

Standards were high at this Munster B Championship. It was a pity that the boys did not have full club teams and we had a few just outside medals. Nevertheless these young athletes put in great performances. More photos available at www.youghalac.com/photos

Well done also the toe Master athletes who were so impressive on the day and especially to Ruth Mellerick who was 3rd overall and 1st O35 and to Evelyn Cashman who was 4th overall and 2nd O40. Both of these ladies were the first two scorers on the Cork O35 team which won. Well done also to Tomas Ward and Mossie Cahill. It is great for juveniles to see parents/coaches run on the day.
