EAST CORK ATHLETICS BOARD AWARDS NIGHT

Youghal AC athletes were honoured for their achievements at the third Annual awards ceremony organised by the East Cork Board at the Walter Raleigh hotel on the 4th April. The event was magnificently organised by Board members Martin Drake, Chairman and Tim Twomey, Secretary. Guests included Mayor of Cork Cllr Barbara Murray, Orla Barry, Paralympics bronze medalist, Rev. Tom Browne and Jerry Russell a founding member of the East Cork Athletic Board.

Youghal AC athletes Patricia Curtin ( 3 Javelin All Ireland medals, U19 title, bronze medallist in National Junior and Seniors), Cian Greene (Silver medallist in National Indoor U/17 60m), Lauren O’ Mahoney (Silver medallist in U/16 National Javelin,All Ireland schools medallist and Tailteann Games medal winner), Fearghal Curtin (silver medallist in National U/15 1500m, Individual winner in Minor Schools National Cross Country and U/15 National title and bronze medallist in U/16 National Cross Country), Jennifer Hennessy (Individual 800m U/15 winner, bronze medallist in 1500m, bronze inter-county medal in U/15 All Ireland Cross Country), Eoin O’ Brien, Jake McCarthy and Killian Nolan (Gold inter-county medal winners in the U/13 National Cross Country), Lucy O’ Keefe (individual bronze medallist in the U/11 National Cross Country and also gold inter-county and provincial team medallist).

A special presentation was made to Fearghal Curtin for his National achievements to date. Fearghal has won 7 All Ireland Cross Country titles; five consecutive titles from 2008 to 2012 and also the Minor Schools title in 2012 and the Junior Schools title in March, 2013. Fearghal qualified for the Irish team at the U/16 Cross Country National. He ran in Cardiff, Wales and won a gold Irish team medal in January.
