• Girls U10 and Boys U14 win County Team title
• Girls U12 2nd and Boys U12 3rd
• Emma Landers, Avril Cashman, Eoin O’ Brien and Jennifer Hennessy win individual medals.
• Fearghal Curtin wins County U16 title
The Even ages Cross Country Championships were held on Sunday 6th October in Carrignavar. Thankfully the rain held off. The course was well laid out and had a steep climb on one side which all athletes had to run.
The day got off to a thrilling start with the U10 girls putting a super display. Emma Landers led the field home coming in 4th place; Avril Cashman was 6th, Rion Walsh 7th and Eva Murphy 8th. These girls scored 25 points which was well clear of the other nine teams. The team also included Avril Mellerick 11th, Alex Cashman 13th, Grace Rooney 15th, Robyn Buckley 22nd, Juliette Nicholson 55th, Tara Hickey 63rd, Jane Savage 64th, Emily Hogan70th and Farrah Dunne 71st. Emma Landers and Avril Cashman won bronze individual medals.
The Boys U10 team came 8th. The scorers were Charlie O’ Brien 34th, Bobby Nicholson 44th, Sean O’ Connor 47th and Ross Williams 54th. They were followed by Jack Nicholson 51st, Liam O’ Connor 55th, Eanna McEnally 57th, Christopher Buckley 60th, Alex Kennedy 67th and Eoin Rooney 68th.
The Girls U12 team came 3rd. Lucy O’ Keefe was the first scorer in 9th; next in was Aimee Morgan 14th, Kerrie Barrett 17th and Leslie Cashman 19th to complete the scoring. Also on the team were Sarah Kate Dorgan in 57th and Hazel Nolan in 64th. All these girls won silver County team medals.
The Boys U12 team came 3rd. First scorer was Tom Wall in 15th followed closely by Ciaran McNamee 16th; next in were Evan O’ Keefe in 20th and Darragh Joyce in 24th. The team also included Colm Landers, Cian Nicholson and Darragh Buckley.
The Girls U14 team finished an unlucky fourth. Team members included Karynn Collins 12th, Faith McEvitt 30th, Doireann Conway 34th and Aine O’ Regan 39th. Tirna Cahill was 42nd and Annabella Pelylie was 49th.
The Boys U14 team won the County Team title also. Eoin O’ Brien had a strong run to finish 4th place winning an individual medal. Next in were Rory Donnellan 14th and closley followed by Jake McCarthy in 15th. James Wall was the fourth scorer in 27th place. Also to feature in the medals were Dylan Lucey 32nd and Dean Savage 36th.
The Girls U16 team finished in 5th place. Jennifer Hennessy had a good run coming in the individual placings in 6th place. Emily O’ Keefe was the second scorer in 16th place, Zsofia Ballogh in 19th and Bettina Pelylie in 29th place.
Fearghal Curtin won the U16 Boys title and put in a strong performance throughout. More photos available at www.youghalac.com/photos
