Munster Even Ages Juvenile Cross Country 25-Oct-2015

Our juvenile athletes were out in force at the Munster even age xc championship on Sunday 25th October . It was a very enjoyable and successful day, which was held at a very challenging course on the outskirts of Waterford city. A total of 31 medals were won by our young athletes , with 2 teams and 4 individuals qualifying for the National XC championship , late November in Dublin.

The races began with the U10 girls where Sorcha Kilgannon had a terrific run to finish in 7th place and obtain an individual Munster medal as well as a Cork gold team medal. Poppi Devereaux was next home in 17th position followed closely by Eireann Barrett 18th . Ruby Kennedy was 33rd followed by Rachel Murray 39th and Aoibhe Daly 45th. Katie Ansbro, Clodagh Fitzgerald and Cliodhna O Connell completed the team which won silver club team medals.

Ben Walsh led the boys U10 team home and came 10th overall, winning an individual Munster medal and a gold Cork team medal. Aidan McNamee was next in 40th position followed by Fionn Brennan and Oisin O Connell.

The U12 girls held their usual high standard of running to become Munster champions and bring home team gold medals. Avril Cashman had a super finish in this tough 2000m race to come 6th overall just ahead of Emma Landers in 7th. Both girls getting individual Munster medals and gold Cork team medals. Robyn Buckley and Erin Joyce had very strong runs to finish 14th and 15th, followed by Avril Millerick 17th and Eva Murphy 23rd. Rion Walsh was next home in 28th position , with Alex Cashman 30th and Grace Rooney 54th. Jane Savage , Saoirse O Connell and Natasha Kilgannon completed the team.

Rory Motherway led the boys U12 team home, finishing 44th overall. Nathan O Halloran was next in 75th place followed by Ross Williams 77th and Alex Kennedy 82nd. Great running in a very competitive field.

Lucy O Keeffe was first home for the Youghal U14 girls team. She had a great run to finish 9th overall and obtain an individual Munster medal, as well as a gold Cork team medal. Lesley Cashman had a super run to finish 26th and qualify on the Cork team for the National XC . Kerry Barrett 70th and Eabha Walsh 72nd completed the team in this 3000m race.

Ciaran McNamee had a great run in the U14 boys race to finish in 20th place . Eoin Fitzgerald was next home in 52nd position followed by Darragh Buckley 55th.

Aine O Regan and Sarah Williams ran well in their U16 girls race to finish 47th and 57th respectively.

The U16 boys had a super 4000m race to win silver club team medals. They were led home by Simon Upton 5th and Killian Nolan 8th ,who both won individual Munster and gold Cork team medals . Jake McCarthy was next in 16th position followed by Tiarnan McCarthy 46th. Dylan Lucey completed the team in 52nd position .

Emily O Keeffe ran well in the U18 girls race to finish 23rd and Calum Lynch finish 21st in the U18 boys race . Both qualified on Cork teams for the National XC.

Well done to all athletes who participated and congratulations to all 17 athletes who qualified for the National Even Ages Cross Country Championships in Santry on 22nd November. This is a significant number form the club. Keep up the training. More photos available at www.youghalac.com/photos
