Douglas Credit Union charity 5km race - October 9th

Congratulations to Keith Kelly on his first Overall win at today’s Douglas 5km in a fantastic time of 16:43, in tough windy conditions. A well-deserved victory after numerous great performances and podium finishes over the summer months.

Keep up the great work Keith

09th October '22 - County uneven age XC Championship

Torrential rain, strong winds and plenty of mud, whilst standing on top of a hill. This can only be Cross Country season.

Ballynoe was the venue on Sunday 9th October for County uneven age XC Championship.

A super course with a nice open downhill start followed by technical sharp turns and short up and down segments led to a long flat straight before a punishing 200 metre climb to the finish line.

First on course for Youghal AC was our U9 Girls performed excellently with Clara Dineen securing a silver medal and Gabrielle Flavin 25th in an enormous field of runners. We also had two U9 boys in the next race and both had great runs with Tomas McGrath 22nd and Eric Shah in his first race coming a credible 47th.

Naoise Ni Laoire and Freya Keating had strong showings in the Girls under 11 race as conditions became even more difficult.

The under 11 boys had a great team of 8 competitors, all of whom ran very well and were just pipped for a Team medal. James Kelleher lead the team home followed by Shay Walsh Odhran Osullivan Tadhg Collins, Ernie Sharkey, David Shah, Sean ODonoghue and Ciaran Mcgrath.

Lucy Kelleher and Caoimhe Walsh ran well in the Girls Under 13 while Ruby Devereaux was unlucky to finish just outside the medals in 12th position in the U13 boys race.

Aine Collins had a super run in the Girls U15 finishing in the medals followed home by Vivien Mellerick and Amy Coleman.

Last but not least were the Boys U15 duo of Quin Buckley and Conor Osullivan both finishing in the top 20.

The bravery and commitment shown by all our young Athletes is a credit to both the Club and their Families.

Thank all of you so much for a great day's sport.

Weekend Update 16th October ‘22

A busy weekend of action on the running circuit with athletes travelling great distances in the green and white hoops.

First up was Deirdre Ansbro and lady captain Janette O’ Sullivan at the Stone Mad Blarney Half Marathon on Sunday morning 16th October. In a female field stacked with talent, Deirdre finished a fantastic 8th place in a time of 1:32:52 with Janette not far behind in 12th place in a PB time of 1:37:00. Well done to Aoife Cooke on her victory

Youghal AC were also represented at the Cork BHAA Defence Forces 5k, which was held at the new Haulbowline Park. Eddie O’ Regan, George Bulman and Dave McCarthy made the journey to Ringaskiddy and ran very credibly in a field of 189 athletes. Well done to Eddie O’ Regan on his time of 21:22, which was good enough for 4th place in the O60 category

Next up was Avril Millerick, Emma Landers and Ciaran McNamee at the Autumn Open Cross-Country Festival 2022 in Abbottstown, Dublin. Ciaran had a strong race in the Junior Men to finish in a time of 20:52 and Emma had a great run in the Junior Women finishing in 7th place in 16:55; however, it was Avril Millerick who stole the show WINNING the Junior Women event in a time of 16:08. A fantastic run by the Youghal AC athlete saw her finish 10 seconds ahead of her nearest challenger.

Well done to all who represented Youghal AC over the weekend and keep up the great work over the winter months

Weekend Update 23rd October ‘22

A busy Sunday for Youghal AC athletes saw runners toeing the line throughout Cork County.

A total of 20 runners turned out at Round 1 of 7 of the Youghal AC Winter League series (report to follow in a further post), 11 juvenile members made the journey to Riverstick for the Munster Athletics Novice, Under 23 & Juvenile Even-Age Cross-Country Championships and a sole representative made his way to the Rebel Run 10km at MTU Track, Bishopstown.

Alex Cashman was the stand-out performer at the cross-country meet securing an individual silver medal and team gold for Cork. Aine Collins ran a great race in the U14 Girls coming in 14th place just outside the Top 6 for Cork, who secured team gold. There were solid performances for our boys in the U10 race with James Kelleher, Ernie Sharkey and Shay Walsh running well in a massive field of runners. Freya Keating was our sole representative in the U10 Girls, Lucy Kelleher and Caoimhe Walsh ran in the U12 Girls, Odhran O’ Sullivan ran in the U12 Boys and Quin Buckley & Conor O’ Sullivan competed admirably in the U14 Boys. Well done to all who represented Youghal AC on a lovely day for running.

Well done to Keith Kelly who finished 4th overall and 1st M40 at the Rebel Run 10km at MTU Track, Bishopstown. Following up his recent victory at the Douglas Credit Union charity 5km race two weeks ago, Keith finished in a PB of 34:07.

The Autumn Murkiness was lifting as the runners gathered on the Mall for round 1 of 7 of Youghal Athletic Clubs Winter League.

There was a nice buzz around registration in The Boardwalk Cafe as Older and newer members signed up for the series.

20 runners left Town Hall jogging the 1 Mile to the start at Breton Rd. where the race briefing and countdown from 5 set them on their way back to the Town Hall finish line.

A fast flat course in perfect running conditions seen some excellent times recorded.

Remember there is a twist to this series and only 10 points separates 1st to 20th with 10 points just for taking part or volunteering.

The next event is a guess your time event which gives everyone the same chance of scoring points.

It is essential (if you want to be in with a chance of winning an overall prize) that you take part in the next event as Week 3 will be handicapped based on your finishing time from Week 2.

There are NO WATCHES allowed for weeks 2 and 3.

See you all for Week 2 on Friday November 4th at AURA. Registration and times to be submitted from 18:00.

Whistle goes at 19:00 sharp.

Come out and support your Club
