The MUNSTER EVENAGE XC championship was held in Clarecastle on Sunday 22nd October . Following a week of horrendous weather it was no surprise that the course was extremely wet and mucky . Youghal AC had 26 athletes competing on the day and they all put in super performances despite the tough conditions.

The U10 girls opened the days event with a 1000m run. Vivien Millerick led the Youghal girls home with a super run to finish 20th overall. She was followed closely by Autumn Devereaux 25th and Taylor Aherne 30th. Carolina Kaakikova , running her first XC race ,completed the team.

Sorcha Kilgannon had a fantastic run in the U12 girls race to finish 9th overall , winning an individual Munster medal and a gold county team medal . Eireann Barrett 52nd was next , closely followed by Poppi Devereaux 55th and Izabella Chidlow 57th. Katie Ansbro , Ruby Kennedy and Clodagh Fitzgerald completed the team.

The U14 girls held their winning steak taking club team gold. Emma Landers had an outstanding run to finish 2nd overall . Avril Cashman was next in 9th position , followed by Erin Joyce 12th. These 3 girls winning individual Munster medals and all scored on the Cork team to take gold county team medals. Eva Murphy was next in 16th position , followed by Avril Millerick 20th and Alex Cashman 23rd. Robyn Buckley , Grace Rooney and Natasha Kilgannon completed the team.

Lucy O Keeffe had a super run in the U16 girls 4000m race to finish comfortably in 3rd position , winning an individual medal and leading Cork to victory in the county team competition. Lesley Cashman finished in 26th and qualified on the Cork team for the National XC competition.

Ciaran McNamee finished 19th in the U16 boys race and also qualified on the Cork team for the Nationals.

Anne o Regan had a great run in the U18 girls race.

Jake McCarthy finished a super 4th in the U18boys race , winning an individual medal and a silver county team medal . Killian Nolan finished well in 14th position and also took a silver Cork team medal.

With 19 medals and 12 athletes qualifying for the National XC , we will have to keep up the training and prepare for the next competition. Well done to all who competed on such a testing course.
