Munster Juvenile Uneven Ages Cross Country Championships 08-Nov-2015

The Munster uneven age Cross country was held in Beaufort , Co. Kerry on Sunday 8th November in what could only be described as horrendous conditions. It rained for almost all of the juvenile races but this didn't seem to effect out young athletes who performed brilliantly on the day.

Clodagh Fitzgerald was the first to run for Youghal in the U 9 girls races and she had a great run to finish 31st .

Aidan McNamee and Dylan Parker competed in the U9 boys race . Aidan finished strongly in 6th position , winning and individual Munster medal and a silver Cork team medal. Dylan had a great run too and finished 47th.

The U11 girls were led home by Avril Millerick who had a brilliant race to finish 2nd overall and obtain an individual Munster medal. Alex Cashman had a great run to finish in 13th position. Both girls getting gold Cork team medals. Sorcha Kilgannon followed in 20th position and qualified with both Avril and Alex on the Cork team for the National Uneven age XC to be held in Dungarvan in December. Eireann Barrett was next home in 26th place , followed by Tara Hickey 30th and Grace Rooney 32nd. Poppi Devereaux and Jane Savage completed the team . Well done to these girls who secured Munster club team gold medals.

The U13 girls also had a super race to win silver club team medals. Emma Landers led the team home and finished 10th overall and obtained an individual Munster medal and gold Cork team medal. Erin Joyce had a brilliant run to finish 16th and qualified with Emma on the Cork team for the National XC. Avril Cashman was next in 3rd position followed by Robyn Buckley 38th , Rion Walsh 40th and Eva Murphy 45th. Excellent result for these girls who were all U12's running up an age.

Ciaran McNamee had a brilliant race in the U13 boys race to finish 4th overall and obtain an individual Munster medal and a silver Cork team medal. Eoin Fitzgerald finished well in 72nd position.

The underfoot conditions were not improving when the U15 girls set out on their 3500m race. This didn't deter Lucy O Keeffe who had a great race to finish 9th and obtain an individual Munster medal as well as a gold Cork team medal. Lesley Cashman was next home in 32nd position followed by Kerry Barrett 54th . Faith McEvitt followed in 67th and Tirna Cahill 69th.

Jake McCarthy had a brilliant race in the U15 boys race to finish 5th overall , winning an individual Munster medal and a gold Cork team medal. Dylan Savage finished well in 42nd position.

Aine O Regan and Karen Collins ran well in the U17 girls race . Aine finished 36th and qualified for the National XC on the Cork team. Karen followed closely in 38th position.

Killian Nolan had a great 5000m run in the U17 boys race to finish 20th and qualify on the Cork team for the National XC. Eoin O Brien was next home in 28th followed by Tiarnan McCarthy 40th and Simon Upton 42nd.

With two club teams and 5 individuals qualified for the National XC in Dungarvan , it was a very successful day for the club. Well done to all our athletes who braved the elements and participated . More photos available at www.youghalac.com/photos Keep up the good work
