Youghal AC had a large number of juveniles in action at the first Cross Country race at the East Cork Championships in Conna hosted by St Catherines AC on Sunday 23rd September. The club had 7 teams in action all of whom won medals which was very encouraging. Well done to all our new and enthusiastic athletes who did so well. A special mention to the club’s individual medal winners Aimee Morgan 3rd G/10, Jake McCarthy 3rd B/12, Jennifer Hennessy 2nd G/16 and Fearghal Curtin 1st B/16.

The Girls’s U/10 team had a great win and got the day off to a good start. The girls were in the leading group throughout the race including Aimee Morgan 3rd, newcomer Lilianne Pelyhie 4td, Emma Landers 5th and Caoilfhionn Barry 6th. This was excellent scoring for the team. Next in were Kira Fitzgerald7th, Joy Nicholson 10th , Hazel Nolan 11th, Eva Murphy 12th, Sarah Kate Dorgan 17th, Abigail Cody 20th and Lucy Nicholson 21st.

The Boys U/10 team came 3rd and included David Buckley who was first in to score in 13th, Michael Wall 15th, Darragh Leahy 16th, Sean Donnellan 21st. The rest of the team included Colm Landers, Ross Williams, Jack Nicholson and Matthew Sabaonya.

The Girls U/12 team came 3rd. First in to score was Faith McEvitt 11th, Ciara Leahy 14th, Kerry Barrett 15th and Rebecca O’ Sullivan 16th. The team also included Tirna Cahill 17th, Annabella Pelyhie 19th, Ciara Cantillon 20th and Niamh O’ Brien 23rd.

The Boys U/12 team finished in a good 2nd place with some super performances and scoring. Jake McCarthy had a great finish to finish in 3rd place; he was followed by Matthew Cody 7th, Sam McSweeney 9th and Tom Wall 11th. Also on the team were Darragh Buckley 27th and Cian Nicholson 28th.

The Girls U/14 team came 3rd and included Karynn Collins 9th, Tara Murphy 12th, Aine O’ Regan 15th and Rachel Jackson 20th. The Boys U/14 team came a good 2nd and there was very good scoring and team packing. First in was Killian Nolan narrowly missing out on the individual placing in 4th place; next in was Eoin O’ Brien 5th, Rory Donnellan 8th and James Wall in 10th to conclude the team scoring.

The Girls U/16 team came first with all girls running well. Jennifer Hennessy finished in a strong 2nd place, Emily O’ Keefe in 4th, newcomer Lydia Blanc in 5th and Sarah O’ Sullivan in 6th. Fearghal Curtin was the sole Youghal AC juvenile in the B/16 race and ran superbly to win the u16 title in as convincing fashion.

Well done to the men who gave such a brilliant display; it was great to see such a display of Youghal jerseys. They won the Novice team and were 2nd in the O/35 team (John Malone, Brian Landers, Mossie Cahill and Ciaran Coleman). John Malone won the Novice trophy and was 3rd in the O/35 section. Noel Curtin was 2nd in the O/45 and the O/45 team was first (Noel Curtin, Martin Drake, Ed O’ Regan, Dermot Ledingham, Michael Buckley, Dave McCarthy and Martin O’ Brien). Training next week will be in Glenbower Wood at 6.30pm sharp. Training for Saturday session will be notified to members on Thursday. Winter training for our track and field athletes will commence in October – details to follow. Keep up the good work!
