A great night of superb athletics and good weather was enjoyed by many Youghal AC families at the Cit on Tuesday 8th July.

There was a tremendous atmosphere and very high standards witnessed in all track and field events. It was wonderful to see some of our younger talented athletes compete in the Juvenile 300m/200m Gala at the start of the programme. Kerrie Barrett was our first athlete on track and came a fantastic 3d in the U13 race in a time of 47.64. Next up was Christian Millerick who sprinted so well and was just pipped for 3rd place. Grace Rooney ran a super race and won the G/10 200m race in a time of 31.89. Avril Millerick also ran well in the G/10 200m race and finished just outside the medal positions. Our youngest competitor Eireann Barrett ran a great race also in the G/9 race coming in 3rd in a time of 36.66. Well done to these athletes who will no doubt be featuring in the Senior events in the future.

Fearghal Curtin ran in the Junior 1500m and was one of the youngest competitors. Fearghal ran a very good race working his way through the field of 17 competitors in the first 400m to tuck in 8th position and moved up to 6th place in the 2nd lap tagging on to the leading group. Fearghal finished in 6th place and achieved a super PB of 4.00.13. Fearghal will travel to Cardiff on 18th July on the Irish Schools team to run in the Intermediate 3000m race. He also has the All Ireland Juvenile 800m, 1500m and 3000m on the last weekend of July and he is also in the National League Men’s team which will participate in the final on 23rd August in Tullamore.
