Hello to all from Youghal AC.
Well we are right in the height of the road race season at the moment, with plenty races available during the week and especially at the weekends. We have been having great success at recent races with John ‘Guy’ Malone leading the charge, he is in superb form and is now a contender in every race he enters. It is also great to see other prize winners at recent races including; Adam Malone, Evelyn Cashman, Cecilia O ’Regan, Claire Murphy, Sylvie O’Mahony, Noel Curtin.
The ladies team picked up silver medals in the recent East Cork road race championship and well done to the girls over a tough course. We need to get our men’s team back into contention next year as the competition is getting tougher.
I would like to mention Ann Moloney who has now completed a huge amount of Marathons and is now getting ready for Cork in June. For those not familiar with Marathon training it is very difficult, time consuming and requires dedication. So people like Ann who compete is so many marathons should be admired and she always wears her Youghal vest at these events, good luck in Cork and I hear Dublin is looming?
There are some many races on that it is difficult to keep up with all who are competing but keep the club colours flying whenever you can. The Clonpriest 5k was an outstanding success with a superb atmosphere and certainly the best selection of cakes I have ever seen at a road race. I hope this event will become an annual one as all the athletes I spoke with, were singing its praises. The course was excellent and is certainly one where PB’s could be achieved if the weather conditions are right.
We have the Emer Casey 10k next Sunday so look forward to seeing everyone at this event, it is normally a hot day so we have that to look forward to.
On the 31st May we have a new event in Kilcredan, a 5k race which I believe will be on par with the Clonpriest race and therefore a great night in store. We have a number of our club members on the organising committee so please give your support to this event.
