The Munster schools Cross country championships were held in CIT on 13th February. Conditions were very cold and the course was very challenging. The club had 5 athletes in action for their schools having previously qualified from the South Munsters. In the first race of the day Karynn Collins 40th and Faith McEvitt 41st ran well but unfortunately their team was 4th. They scored equal points with the third team but it went to the result of the final scorers on each team to decide 3rd and final team to qualify for the All Irelands. It was very disappointing for the St.Mary’s team; neverthleless well done to their Midleton team mate Tamzin Muldowney who came 2nd. Killian Nolan who was running for CBC came 14th which qualifies him for the All Ireland Minor race. Killian is back after missing a whole season through injury and is showing considerable improvement with every outing.

Eoin O’ Brien came 30th in the Junior Boys race and was the fourth scorer for his Midleton CBS team which came 2nd. Well done Eoin who is young in this category. Fearghal Curtin who is running his first year in Intermediate had a great run interchanging leading the race with Kevin Mulcaire of St.Flannans, Co. Clare. It was an exciting race and Kevin got the better of Fearghal halfway through the last lap. It was a good second position for Fearghal and now looks forward to the All Ireland schools.

Best of luck to Killian Nolan, Eoin O’ Brien and Fearghal Curtin who will run in the All Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships in the CIT 8th March; please try and support these athletes especially as it is a local venue. More photos available at www.youghalac.com/photos
