Well done to the 62 Youghal AC athletes who made the short journey to Dungarvan for the ever-popular John Treacy 10m road race. Conditions were pretty much ideal for the race with mild dry weather and there was a total of 2827 finishers.
Special mentions to David Herlihy, who was first wearing the green and white hoops to cross the line in a PB of 1:04:00 – securing a 5km and 10km PB in the process. Deirdre Ansbro was our first female finisher breaking the 70-minute barrier with 2 seconds to spare. Well done to Tom Leahy, Anna Pawlik and Louise Murphy, wearing the Youghal AC singlet for the first time and to Lisa O’ Connell, ClaireAnn Kelleher and Marie O’ Rourke who completed the 10-mile distance for the first time. Big PB’s for some of our members too but shout out to Connor Goulding who took 14 minutes off his time in 2023 and Patricia Hogan who was 9 minutes quicker this year. Well done too to Mary Kingston on the occasion of her 10th John Treacy
Well done also to our members who took part in ParkRun #97 at Pobalscoil Na Trionoide, and to those out doing their weekend runs. Keep up the good work

It was a lovely morning for the 4th race in the Cloyne commons 4km series. Well done to the five Youghal AC athletes who raced this morning. 46 Dave McCarthy 17:57
56 Michael McMahon 18:26
69 George Bulman 19:00
75 Donal Sheehan 19:14
103 Marie O Rourke 21:14.
Well done to all our members who took part in parkrun and to those who were out completing their weekend runs also.
Just the 250 metres of ascent for the latest instalment of the Irish Mountain Running Associations Coillte Winter/Spring league, in the very picturesque setting of Rahan Woods just outside Mallow, on Sunday last February 18th.
Balmy conditions in the woods with temperatures exceeding 13 degrees and no breeze welcomed our three competitors to the Mallow A/C hosted event.
A fabulous course made up of fire road and boggie single file track with muck to the ankles after all the heavy rain.
9.2km in these conditions sucks the energy from the legs quickly.
1k downhill start on fire road wouldn’t inspire confidence when mountain running as it can only be followed by climbing but it’s welcome all the same.
The climbs were tough but manageable and the 1k fast start was also the 1k finish in reverse which left a long drag to the welcome site of the volunteer team at the line.
Celia tops the standing in Her age category and Eddie was his usual dogged competitor 2nd in His category and David... Well let’s say He’s there abouts with two rounds left.
Torc Mountain is next up with rumblings of a night away in Killarney stoking up the enthusiasm but Dave won’t let the legs know for another few days when the soreness subsides.

WEEKEND ROUNDUP
It was a busy weekend for Youghal AC athletes near and far…….
First up, our fabulous U20 girls team travelled to Portugal to take part in the European Cross Country Championships and came away 9th team overall with Avril leading them home coming in 12th, with super runs from Alex, Izabella and Saorla. This a a fantastic result on such a big stage. Much more to come from these girls. Watch this space…….
Next up were the Munster indoors where Poppi came away pole vault champion. She now progresses onto the all Irelands. We also had Diarmuid Murphy who won his heat in the 600. Olan came 5th and James 3rd in 600 heats. The girls also ran super races on Saturday. Fantastic performances from our young athletes and we are all very proud of them.
Last but by no means least the ever impressive Keith Kelly raced the Kinsale 10mile this morning in horrendous conditions and came home 9th over all and 1st M45 in an incredible time of 57:45. John Mason also had a super run finishing in a great time of 1:10:10.
Well done to all of our members who ran in the 100th Pobalscoil parkrun this weekend and to those out doing long runs training for their next goal.
