Youghal Athletic Club (Sponsored by Youghal Credit Union) 07-Oct-2012

Hello to all from Youghal AC.

The men’s team had a great day out in Conna at the recent East Cork Cross country. John Malone won the Novice trophy and was 3rd in the O/35 section. They won the Novice team and were 2nd in the O/35 team (John Malone, Brian Landers, Mossie Cahill and Ciaran Coleman). Noel Curtin was 2nd in the O/45 and the O/45 team was first (Noel Curtin, Martin Drake, Ed O’ Regan, Dermot Ledingham, Michael Buckley, Dave McCarthy and Martin O’ Brien).

I was reminded recently that I never mentioned that John Malone won a bronze medal in the All-Ireland Masters 1500 meters. It was a great result and nice to see a national medal been won in the senior club, well done Guy there are plenty more medals out there for you.

We had the Dualthlon recently with the Youghal Cycling club, it was a very wet morning but the event itself was very good and has the makings of an annual event. The difficulty will be to get the grading and pairing right to give everyone a fair chance. Noel Curtin and John Tracey (no not the runner) were the first pair home.

We have a huge number of underage athletes presently in the club and we would appreciate any help we could get from parents and senior athletes to help out on the training nights (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday).

Great to see Martin O’Brien back pounding the roads again, in his yellow Kenyan shoes you could hardly miss him. Has anybody seen Sylvie or is he off doing special training?

I think we had only two lads going to the Cork to Cobh race today no results in yet officially but I heard that Warren Terry came home in 1 hour 50 Minutes. Well done the training is paying off even though after the race he said he is never running again as he is wrecked.

Brian Landers was in Kerry today running up and down mountains and other mad stuff, but then that’s Brian!

See the picture at the start of the Duathlon and Noel Curtin teasing the rest of them to catch him if they can!

See you all on the roads during the week.

New jerseys are also available from Rickki and anyone looking for club tracksuits contacts Mossie Cahill, Frank Morrision or George Bulman.

6.45 men at Farrells car park.

Wednesday – 6.45 men at Farrells car park – hill run.

Friday - 6.45 at Farrells car park – speed work.

Don’t forget your high-viz jackets when running.
