Munster Even Ages Cross Country Championships - 26th Oct 2014

Youghal AC had 27 athletes in action at the Munster Even ages Cross Country Championships at Turnpike, Two Mile Borris, Co. Tipperary on Sunday 26th October.Out of this number 13 medals were won and 11 have qualified for the All Ireland Even ages Cross Country Championships in Dundalk on 23rd November.
Girls U10
This team came 2nd with a total of 53 points. Avril Mellirick had a very strong finish to come in 2nd to win a Munster silver Individual medal. Next in was Grace Rooney 14th, Sophia Connon 18th, Tara Hickey 19th, Alex Cashman 21st, Eireann Barrett 52nd and Jayne Savage 60th. Cork came 2nd; Avril was the first scorer and Grace was the 3rd scorer thus winning silver inter-county medals. Well done to all these girls. There were 16 teams in the race and over 120 finishers.
Girls U12
This team was so unlucky to be just short 4 points for the bronze team medals and indeed just 13 point short of 2nd place. However by coming 4th the girls have qualified as a club team for the All Irelands which is an excellent achievement in a big field. First in was Emma Landers 17th and she was followed by Avril Cashman 29th, Eva Murphy 32nd, Aimee Morgan 34th, Robyn Buckley 70th, Hazel Nolan 106th and Chloe Pye 108th. Erin Joyce Well done girls!
Boys U12
The club had two boys in this race. Ciaran McNamee had a good race to finish 25th missing out on a Cork medal by one place. He will be on the Cork team for the All Irelands. Well done also to Colm Landers who was 90th.
Girls U14
The team finished 12th and included Lucy O’ Keefe 15th, Kerrie Barrett 30th, Leslie Cashman 68th and Tirna Cahill 85th. Lucy had a very strong finish to be the 5th scorer for the Cork team which came 3rd so winning a gold inter-county medal.
Boys U14
Jake McCarthy also finished strongly in 8th place which earns him a place on the Munster and Cork teams for the All Irelands. Cork came 1st and Jake was the 3rd scorer. Dean Savage and Dylan Lucey also had excellent runs and are improving immensely this season. Dean was 33rd and Dylan was 51st.
Boys U16
Killian Nolan and Simon Upton both performed very well in this race. Killian ran very strongly to finish 16th barely missing out on the 6th Cork medal by one place. Killian will be on the Cork team for the All Irelands. Simon finished well in 38th place. Both of these lads will have their U15 Munsters on 9th November.
Boys U18
Fearghal Curtin won the U18 race. He battled it out with a lead group of 4 at the half way mark and then it narrowed down to two on the last lap. Fearghal got the edge and finished well. He will be on the Munster and Cork team for the All Irelands also.

Keep up the training as there is a hectic schedule coming up with the Uneven Ages Munsters in Newmarket-on-Fergus on 9th November, East Cork Championships on 16th November and Even ages All Irelands on 23rd November.
